Local Shopping Etsy Style
I sell both locally at the Roanoke City Market as well as in an online marketplace known as Etsy. As it turns out there are a lot of other local artisans who do the same. Some of us joined together to form the Roanoke Etsy Street Team. Here's a little sampling of what we have to offer.
Curvilinear is a little shop owned by Anne Pfeiffer that sells handmade jewelry, wheel-thrown pottery and photography. Anne is an artist teaching Digital Photography and Computer Graphics at a local high school. I really like this item from her shop:

Pair of Alabaster Shino Bowls, $35
These bowls layer glaze over shino in order to create this gorgeous alabaster surface. The outside is temmoku glaze that is matte and speckled. The inside almost looks like you just finished a large bowl of French Vanilla ice cream, and let the last bit melt. Approximately 7" wide x 2.5" tall. Dishwasher and dinnerware safe. Hand washing recommended. Wheel-thrown porcelain.
Earth Baby Designs is owned by Laura, a stay at home mom of a 3 year old tow headed, blue eyed, active, book loving little boy. Outside of her "mommy life" she enjoys sewing, cross stitching, gardening and reading. One of her goals is to be as "green" as possible, both in her personal and in her "professional" life. She tries to create as little scrap as possible in her sewing and to reclaim as much as she can. Laura sells lots of great goods for babies like felt food, toy tidies, and blankets. I really dig the felt food she creates.

Pankcake Breakfast - Felt Food, $15
In small Southern (United States) towns we love our big breakfasts, and pancake breakfasts are a common fund raising event for schools, fire departments, Boy Scout troops and churches. This polyester felt breakfast consists of one buttered pancake, one fried egg, two strips of crispy bacon (or facon, if you prefer), and one tea bag with pouch for "making" a nice cup of green tea. This set is meant to be played with by your favorite toddler or preschooler. What little junior chef could resist these unique and handmade food items?
Lollipops and Cupcakes is run by Madeline - mother of a gorgeous, baby girl. I had a chance to meet both this past weekend and they were as sweet as can be! Madeline sells cute little headbands, hand knit baby hats and booties for babies. Currently you can enter to win a headband from her shop now through April 25th. Everything in her shop is so adorable, I almost wish I had my own little one that could fit into one of her lovely hats!

Striped Baby Hat 0-6 months, $20
Sweet soft colors perfect for spring! This hat is adorable! Fun textured stripes with crazy marley topper. This hat is made to fit 0-6 months. Handmade from 100% cotton. Perfect for all seasons!
Dante's Spirit is owned by another wonderful etsian I was able to meet recently. Wolf and her husband came a hunting soap and I was happy to oblige. Her shop is named for my beloved Akita, Dante-Inu, in honor of her indomitable spirit. It features hand dyed fabrics, hand dyed silk scarves, hand dyed and hand sewn Quilted wallhangings, hand dyed and hand sewn lap quilts, handmade beadwork, handmade chainmaille, and more. I think the scarves she offers are particularly stunning.

Polished Brass Hand Dyed Silk Scarf, $85
This gorgeous, richly toned piece was hand dyed with Procion MX dyes. It was then hand wrapped on the pole, Arashi shibori style, and overdyed with Procion MX dyes. It features Swarovski crystals, crystal rondelles, Czech glass rectangle beads, Czech glass seed beads, and unique genuine Brass square beads, passed down to Wolf from her father. This elegant piece works wonderfully as a neck scarf, and is long enough to wear as a stylish belt.
Groggy Froggy is Lisa's shop. I also met Lisa at the local city market. She sells a selection of unique and eclectic spirit dolls and paintings. I especially like her Cherub Spirit Doll.

Cherub Spirit Art Doll, $14
This little beauty is so enchanting. It's made from stuffed cotton muslin using Lisa's own pattern. The face is made of paperclay that has been painted white and dusted with glitter. The body is wrapped with hand-dyed polyfil that has been stretched and glued onto its body. There are butterfly wings affixed to the bag and she is wrapped with beautiful blue and green fiber. The dangly is created with beautiful glass beads and she has a hanger of beads as well. She is all ready to brighten a spot in your home.
Fleece Traveler was created by Tristan. A soccer mom like myself she creates toddler blankets, fleece dog toys, and and totes. She is also running a current contest in which you can enter to win a fleece dog toy through May 5th. I really dig her totes.

Child Travel Tote - Blue Retro Fleece, $15
FleeceTraveler's Child Travel Totes are great for carrying and keeping all of your child’s travel entertainment items in one place. Travel Totes are great for car trips and airplane rides. Magazines, books, puzzles, cameras, snacks, and handheld game systems easily fit into this oversized tote.
Child Travel Totes have soft fleece fabric on the outside and a full cotton fabric liner on the inside. Quilter’s batting is used between the layers to help provide shape and softness. A matching removable base insert is included to provide bottom support. Ribbons at the top of the tote can be tied to keep the bag closed.
