This natural burn relief spray recipe was created for my dear friend, Bambi Godkin, who is currently fighting breast cancer, to help soothe the pain caused by radiation treatment and promote healing. However, you’ll find this burn relief spray also works great on just straight forward, run of the mill sunburns.
Like my healing neem butter recipe, which I also created for Bambi, my natural burn relief spray recipe also includes both arnica infused oil and neem oil. Arnica, like neem oil, not only has analgesic properties, but it also helps with inflammation. Arnica infused oil is commonly used in products to help relieve pain caused by sprains, bruises and other injuries. However, keep in mind it should not be used in open wounds.
Natural Burn Relief Spray Recipe
2.75 oz. arnica infused fractionated coconut oil
.8 oz. shea nut oil
.1 oz. 100% neem oil
.1 oz. vitamin E oil
23 drops lavender essential oil
8 drops tea tree oil
8 drops peppermint essential oil
6 drops patchouli essential oil
To make this natural burn relief spray, you’ll begin by making your Arnica infused oil. I infused mine in fractionated coconut oil to keep this natural burn relief spray recipe from feeling greasy. Simply fill the bottom half of a mason jar with Arnica flowers then cover with fractionated coconut oil. Seal and store in a cool, dark location, turning occasionally for several weeks. Or you can speed up the process by gently heating the fractionated coconut oil and Arnica flowers in a double boiler for an extended time on the stove over low to medium-low heat. Then strain with cheesecloth before use. (See how it’s done in this post on how to make a homemade chamomile balm.) Alternately, you can also purchase Arnica Herbal Oil which is made with Arnica infused olive oil and a touch of vitamin E.
Using a digital scale weigh out the arnica infused oil, shea nut oil, neem oil and vitamin E into a large glass Pyrex measuring cup. Stir to combine.
Screw on a fingertip mister, then label as desired for personal use or gifting.
To use, simply spray onto affected area and gently massage into skin.
If you’d like to learn more about my friend Bambi – who is also an artisan and educator – you can find more information on her condition as well as treatment updates on her GoFundMe page here. You also have the option to donate to her medical fund or to share her story.
All money raised for Bambi will go directly towards her paying for her medical bills and medication as well as to pay for basic living expenses including her mortgage, utilities and food during the times she misses work without compensation. Medical bills alone are expected to exceed $12K after insurance.
In addition to the online fundraiser via GoFundMe, Martin’s Downtown in downtown Roanoke, VA has graciously agreed to allow us to host a benefit show for Bambi on March 6, 2016 from 4pm-10pm. (Learn more about the venue here.) Several wonderful bands are donating their time. They include My Radio, The Floorboards, Tobacco Apache, Empty Bottles and solo singer/songwriter Joy Truskowski. (Learn more about the bands here.)
The benefit show will also include a silent auction with a chance to bid a fantastic collection of goods and services donated by local business owners. Current silent auction items include a room rental at Beliveau Estate Winery in Blacksburg (which normally rents for $250), a $75 gift certificate toNina’s Lil Bakery, a $40 gift certificate to River and Rail restaurant, a one hour pedicure from Les Cheveux Salon & Day Spa, a gift certificate to Shishka Mediterranean Grill & Hookah Bar, two 1-hour massages from Willow Branch Massage Therapy on Grandin Rd. in Roanoke, a pedicure from Polished by Claire V, a sightseeing cruise from Virginia Dare in Smith Mountain Lake, a designer haircut from Oliver’s Twist in Old Southwest Roanoke, four guitar lessons from Fret Mill Music in downtown Roanoke, a $50 gift certificate to Lucky Restaurant in downtown Roanoke and a $50 gift certificate to Fortunato Restaurant in downtown Roanoke. There will also be a suggested $10 donation at the door with all proceeds going directly to Bambi for medical needs. (Please contact me via the event website if your business would like to donate an item or service.)
You can find the event page for the benefit show on Facebook here. Updates to auction items being offered and additional information will continue to be added closer to the event date and can by found at the event website here along with additional venue and band information.
Regardless of whether you are able to make a monetary donation or will be able to attend the benefit show, I’d be extremely grateful if you could share this post, Bambi’s GoFundMe page and the Facebook event with others.
