DIY Natural Homemade Peppermint Mouthwash Recipe

When I figured out that I could make my own mouthwash, I felt so liberated. You mean I don’t have to guzzle down the bottle of bright blue alcoholic liquid every time I want to freshen my breath?

Conventional mouthwash actually contains a good deal of alcohol, which alters the natural pH of the mouth. It can also contain harsh detergents and sugars that your body struggles to process like sorbitol and saccharin. Not to mention synthetic colors, aroma, and flavorings that alter naturally occurring mouth flora. So liberate yourself from the big blue bottle by making your own antibacterial mouthwash at home.

This cucumber eye gel recipe is made using the naturally anti-inflammatory cucumber, an alkaline-packed powerhouse that’s high in Vitamin C that skin loves.

Hello Soap Deli News Readers!

Becca here, from The Dabblist. I blog about recipes, DIY tutorials, life hacks and all around inspiration to create a happy and healthy life.

As I approach the big 3-0, I’m noticing just how much less money I’m spending on happy hour drinks and instead allocating towards a good skincare regimen. I can tell you that, in the last year, I’ve moisturized approximately 250% more than any other year of my life. While I welcome and embrace proof of the time passing on my face, I know that aging gracefully and responsibly means treating my largest organ (my skin) the right way.

But the thing is, the right way doesn’t need to be expensive when you can use nature’s bounty to treat your skin. This eye gel recipe is easy and inexpensive, using the anti-inflammatory properties of the cucumber. Cucumbers, in addition to being alkaline-packed powerhouses in the juicer, are high in Vitamin C. Puffy, swollen skin will soak that stuff right up.  Let me show you how easy this is.

 Ingredients:

4 oz aloe vera gel (or fresh aloe vera if you’ve got a plant at home like I do)

1/2 large cucumber, washed, peeled, and cut into cubes

Directions:

Blend the cucumber with an immersion blender or in a food processor until liquid. Strain the juice of the cucumber through a fine sieve and set aside.

Apply under and around the eyes before bed.

How to Craft A Rose Body Cream Recipe

I started off trying to make a facial cream, but found that this rose body cream recipe was much better suited for my dry elbows and legs right after a shave rather than my face. The soothing oils provide deep moisture to your skin with the sweet smell from the rosewater and ylang ylang.

The concept is relatively simple. You mix waters and oils together to create the cream. It is a delicate process that has taken me a few tries to perfect. Making your own rose body cream recipe is an exercise in patience and being present during the process. It is meditative.

Natural Ylang Ylang & Rose Body Cream Recipe

Waters:

2/3 c. rose water
1/3 c. aloe vera gel
5 drops ylang ylang oil
5 drops rosewater concentrate

Directions:

Combine the waters and essential oils in a bowl with a whisk and set aside to come to room temperature.

 Oils:

1 oz. beeswax pellets (or grated beeswax)
1/4 tsp. lanolin
1/3 c. almond oil
1/3 c. apricot oil
1/3 c. coconut oil

Directions:

Combine the oils in a bowl and place over boiling water to melt together. Remove once melted and place in blender.

Now comes to exercise in patience. Allow the oils in the blender to come to room temperature. You can place it in the refrigerator to speed up the process, but make sure it doesn’t completely solidify.

Once the oils have come to room temperature, blend them on a high speed and slowly pour in the water mixture into the center of the swirl. Watch the mixture turn into a frothy cream, similar to buttercream frosting. Once it reaches that consistency, you can turn off the blender.

Pour your cream into jars and allow to sit and solidify a bit more.

Now, if you find that you didn’t wait long enough for the oils to cool (which has happened to me before), you’ll see the oils and waters begin to separate in your cream. Fear not! This does not mean your cream is a fail, but rather needs a little shaking right before use.

Be sure to store in a jar (with a clean lid to avoid the growth of mold) and keep in a cool, dark cupboard for up to 3 months. You can refrigerate too, though it isn’t necessary.
