Clever Ways to Repurpose Your Cleaning Caddy (Plus 5 Non-Toxic DIY Cleaners to Make Right Now!) If you struggle to stay organized, then check out this collection of clever ways to repurpose your cleaning caddy. Plus learn how to make your own non-toxic cleaners for your home this summer.

As a crafter and soapmaker, staying organized can be a challenge for me. However, it’s a necessity I can’t live without. I’ll admit that I do allow my desk to become a mess of papers, books and notes from time to time often. However, every time I reorganize and declutter my desk, it falls back into disarray within a few days.

While I can deal with a messy desk, keeping my soapmaking and craft supplies organized is an absolute must. Obviously keeping my supplies organized allows me to find what I need for my projects quickly and efficiently. It also serves as a great reminder of which ingredients or materials I have on hand for my next recipe.

Knowing what materials I have to work with is of upmost importance. I’m sure that you, like myself, have accidentally reordered a supply only to discover you still had it in stock, hiding in the back of your pantry. This was, of course, after you removed that new product you were dying to try from your cart in order to buy said supply to stay within your budget. (I SO hate that.)

The best thing to do in this particular situation is to make a list. And while I generally enjoy making lists, I loathe making inventory lists. It remains one of the most tedious tasks I have to perform, so I almost never ever do it. I’d much rather have limitless storage space and containers for organizing.

Cleaning caddies are perfect for neatly storing and carrying just about anything around your home. Especially if your regular storage spaces are overrun with craft supplies. So when I received this stylish, multi-functional enamel caddy from Grove Collaborative, I’d already thought of a reason to order two more!

Clever Ways to Repurpose Your Cleaning Caddy for Other Uses Around the Home This Summer

It’s also why I’m so excited to share this free offer with you: When you place your first order of $20 from Grove Collaborative, you’ll get this free caddy to help you organize your space. Even better, this awesome cleaning caddy comes filled with Mrs. Meyer’s dish soap, hand soap, and lotion. Plus you’ll also receive free shipping!

While you’re more than welcome to go the traditional route and fill your caddy with cleaning supplies like a multi-purpose spray, microfibers, a wand duster, and Mrs. Meyer’s dish soap – why stop there? Following you’ll discover six clever ways to repurpose your cleaning caddy for something other than simply cleaning! (Plus keep reading after these tips for recipes to make your own homemade cleaners!)

Clever Ways to Repurpose Your Cleaning Caddy. Repurpose your cleaning caddy into a mini herb or succulent garden. Add a few inches of gravel or pebbles for drainage, then a layer of potting soil, and your plants. The handle makes it easy to carry your plants to the sink for watering!

Clever Ways to Repurpose Your Cleaning Caddy

1. Mini herb or succulent garden.

I love the idea of a kitchen herb garden in an unconventional planter. Add a few inches of gravel or pebbles for drainage, then a layer of potting soil, and your plants. My favorite herbs to grow are basil, cilantro, and rosemary. Another benefit of the caddy: The handle makes it easy to carry your plants to the sink for watering!

Simple gardening hack idea - Turn your cleaning caddy into a garden tool organizer! Fill it with a cute pair of gloves, trowel, pruning shears, hand rake, and kneeling board. Easily carry your garden tools around the yard instead of running back and forth to the shed.

2. Garden tool organizer.

Here’s a gardening hack for all my green thumb friends: Repurpose your cleaning caddy into a garden tool organizer! Fill it with a cute pair of gloves, trowel, pruning shears, hand rake, and kneeling board. Easily carry your garden tools around the yard instead of running back and forth to the shed. When you’re done gardening, Meyer’s hand soap and lotion are perfect for pampering hardworking hands. (You can also learn how to make your own homemade gardener’s soap from scratch!)

3. Hair tool organizer.

Low on storage space under the bathroom sink? Repurpose your cleaning caddy to create a styling station with your hair dryer, brush, flat iron or curling iron, and products all within reach. I recently added Seed nourishing hair and body oil (which is available through Grove) to my kit, and it’s perfect for taming summer flyaways! My roommate, Bambi, is always flat ironing her hair while I’m always trying to put curls in mine. So having a place to stash our styling tools is a must!

4. Dog toy holder.

Your furry best friend will love this trick: Repurpose your cleaning caddy into a dog toy bin that matches your decor. Fill the caddy with tennis balls, stuffed animals, and other toys. Your pup can reach his own toys, and you won’t have to worry about stepping on a squeaky toy in the middle of the stairs! (This was, of course, my dachshund’s favorite idea!)

5. Ice chest for summer entertaining.

Raise your hand if you’re ready for patio season! This caddy is just the right size to hold ice and a few bottles of wine or lemonade. It’s easy to carry outside, and so much cuter than a plastic cooler. I also recommend adding Murphy’s Naturals mosquito repellent candles to your Grove order to keep summer pests away from your party! (You can keep wine in stock all summer long without ever leaving the house with Winc!)

6. Art supply organizer.

With summer finally here I’ve been spending a lot more time outdoors. Part of that time includes hunting for river rocks to paint! Rather than struggling with multiple containers for our paint brushes and paint pens, my roommate and I repurposed this cleaning caddy for our art supplies. Now it’s quick and easy to remove our art supplies from the dining room table for our regular Tuesday date night dinners.

The Must Have Stress Support Supplement for Women Over 40

So many changes happen to our bodies as we age. As women, our forties can be especially daunting. To help handle the stress of both the physical and emotional changes to my body, I turn to a natural stress support supplement. This stress support supplement is a must for women over 40.

The Must Have Stress Support Supplement for Women Over 40. This natural, herbal stress support supplement is a must for women over 40. Not only does it tame the physical and emotional changes your body experiences during perimenopause, but it helps improve your body's response to stress and boosts immunity for overall wellness.

Not only does it tame the physical and emotional changes your body experiences during perimenopause, but it helps improve your body’s response to stress and boosts immunity for overall wellness.

I’m Too Young to Be Going Through Menopause.

A few years ago, just before I turned forty, I started having hot flashes. They usually occurred in the evenings when I’d have a cocktail or enjoy a glass of wine. Then they’d start in the middle of the day at work, for no apparent reason. My face felt like it was on fire. My body temperature would rise. And my upper chest, neck and face would turn a bright, very unattractive red. I chalked it up to stress or anxiety. Because at the time, I didn’t realize they were hot flashes.

Thank goodness for female friends. Because without our occasional complaints, gossip and chatter, I would have continued to suffer. The hot flashes became more frequent.

At first I thought I was having an allergic reaction to something I’d eaten. Perhaps something I’d drank. An allergy to elderberry perhaps. Or quinine? I kept cutting out possible allergens from my diet without success.

But luckily I have a friend who was going through the same thing. She told me that I was not having an allergic reaction. I was actually having hot flashes. She too would turn bright red with every hot flash. A red like that embarrassed blush I used to get when I got called on in class as a teenager.

Somewhat dubious that at forty I was having hot flashes, I reluctantly tried evening primrose to tackle the issue. And it worked. Being at least a decade too young to be experiencing menopause, I googled my heart out to figure out what was causing my hot flashes. This led to my discovery of perimenopause.

What I kept wondering though, was how the heck had I made it to my forties without a single doctor or GYN mentioning perimenopause?

What the Heck Is Perimenopause Anyway?

Perimenopause is basically a transition phase before menopause begins. While it typically starts for women in their forties, from time to time women in their 30’s and even their 20’s may experience perimenopause.

During perimenopause our ovaries slowly start producing less estrogen. Typically a woman will experience, on average, symptoms of perimenopause for about four years. However, for some women, symptoms continue for up to ten years.

During the last one or two years of perimenopause, the production of estrogen drops significantly. This is then followed by menopause in which the ovaries stop producing eggs.

The symptoms of perimenopause are a lot like premenstrual syndrome – only in overdrive. Not only does perimenopause cause worsened premenstrual syndrome, it also causes hot flashes. In addition there is also breast tenderness, a lowered sex drive, fatique, irregular periods, vaginal dryness, urine leakage, moods swings and trouble sleeping. So basically, it sucks.

And oh, yeah. You can still get pregnant during perimenopause. It may just be more difficult if you are trying to conceive later in life due to the drop in fertility.

Some women find relief from perimenopausal symptoms by taking birth control. I have an IUD and found that it did not help with hot flashes. So if you’re like me and are still experiencing hot flashes, either with or without birth control, there are other options. I delve more into those options further down. Along with a great stress support supplement to also help tackle those mood swings.

The Must Have Stress Support Supplement for Women Over 40. This natural, herbal stress support supplement is a must for women over 40. Not only does it tame the physical and emotional changes your body experiences during perimenopause, but it helps improve your body's response to stress and boosts immunity for overall wellness.

How Do I Know If I’m Experiencing Perimenopause?

Basically if you want to murder your ex whereas before you only wished he suffered considerably, you may have perimenopause. Ok, I jest. But not so ordinary mood swings – like those that take you from a super high all the way down to super low – are a sure sign of perimenopause. Especially if you know you’re not bipolar despite what your ex says. Insane mood changes, well. Welcome to my life.

Hot flashes are another tell tell sign. Hot flashes are basically a sudden rush of heat out of the blue. Some women experience flushing and sweating with hot flashes, while others may not. A hot flash that is coupled with redness in your face and neck, like I get, are called a hot flush. They can also cause rapid heart rate or chills.

If you experience hot flashes at night while sleeping, then they’re referred to as night sweats. So not only are you likely having trouble sleeping anyway, night sweats can compound the issue.

There are a lucky 20% of women who never experience hot flashes. (Can I bottle that magic?) However, if you’re in the other 80%, you can count on having them for about the next seven years. (Or eleven years if your genetics just hate you.)

Some of other sure signs of perimenopause include changes in your period, heavy bleeding, forgetfulness, bone loss, and as previously mentioned, vaginal dryness.

How to Ease Hot Flashes Due to Perimenopause or Menopause. Plus the best stress support supplement for women over 40.

How to Ease Those Hot Flashes.

There are a number of things that commonly trigger a hot flash. These include stress, caffeine, alcohol, heat, cigarette smoke, tight clothing and spicy foods. By reducing these, you may experience fewer hot flashes.

If you aren’t ready to give up Thai food or wine, there are other options such as daily exercise and foods rich in plant estrogen. B-complex vitamins and vitamin E are also common supplements for women experiencing hot flashes due to perimenopause. Or you can tackle hot flashes as they happen through other natural options such as aromatherapy or cooling sprays.

However, through my quest to find alternative natural remedies for my fibromyalgia, I discovered a better supplement. This natural stress support supplement not only helps me body handle stress better, it also helps significantly with hot flashes. Especially when used in combination with a B-complex vitamin and evening primrose.

The Must Have Stress Support Supplement for Women Over 40

The Must Have Stress Support Supplement for Perimenopause.

A few months back I started taking an herbal stress support supplement called ashwagandha root for stress, anxiety and perimenopause. Ashwagandha is a powerful adaptogen that’s 50% more effective at treating anxiety than psychotherapy or a placebo according to a 2009 study.

As an adaptogen, ashwagandha not only aids with healthy stress response, it also helps to maintain a healthy hormone balance. So not only has it helped wrangle the worst of my mood changes, it’s stopped the majority of my hot flashes as well. (Especially when used in combination with the evening primrose oil.) If you need to minimize those overly emotional responses due to your body’s hormone changes, then ashwagandha root may be the right stress support supplement for you.

Ashwagandha root is considered safe for most people. However, if you have an autoimmune disease, are pregnant or nursing, or you have Type 1 diabetes, this herb should be avoided. Ashwagandha root can also stabilize hypothyroidism, though it’s recommended you have your doctor monitor your condition if you are using supplements to maintain a healthy thyroid. The recommended dose of ashwagandha root is 450–500 mg once or twice daily.

When I first began taking ashwagandha root, I was purchasing it as a single supplement. However, for the past two months I’ve been getting my daily dose through HempFusion’s Stress Phytocomplex. This supplement blend further aids my stress response and calms anxiety. It also helps to calm some of the symptoms of my fibromyalgia. (This stuff got me through two interviews without breaking a sweat. Seriously.) I not only love that it counteracts many of the symptoms of my perimenopause, but that it also gives me extra energy without the need for caffeine.

The Hemp Fusion capsules contain a unique full-spectrum phytocomplex oil extracted from nutritional hemp, black pepper fruit, and clove oil. This fusion of unique plant extracts includes valuable phytocompounds and terpenes naturally occurring in nutritional hemp and other botanicals and is perfect for occasional stress support in addition to daily Endocannabinoid System support.

I’m currently purchasing this product from ThriveMarket as it allows me to save up to 50% off my favorite brands of herbal supplements everyday. And I earn cashback toward more of my favorite health and wellness products as well as organic pantry staples. Everyone needs to save a little money, right?

If this sounds like something you may be interested in (it’s like a wholesale club for organic health and wellness products) then I encourage you to give them a try. They offer a free trial (that you can easily cancel prior to being billed for a yearly membership) and you get 25% off your first order. I save well over $1500 with them annually.

In addition to taking ashwagandha root for hot flashes and healthy stress support, I also highly recommend a B-complex vitamin and evening primrose oil. I am currently using (and loving!) Thrive Market’s own brand of Food Cultured Vitamin B-Complex with Ginseng along with Jarrow Formula’s Cold Pressed Evening Primrose Oil. I take these three stress support supplements specifically to tackle my own perimenopause with my first meal of each day.

Darn Those Wacky Hormones

When I was a teenager I always assumed that I would grow out of my acne. Sadly, that was not the case. I had terrible acne flare ups throughout my thirties. Some of which were hormonal. Others were due to stress. I figured that in my forties I could finally kiss acne goodbye. Well, no one told me about perimenopause.

It’s like my entire life since I turned twelve has been plagued by hormone changes. And now I’m stuck with yet another bout of insane hormone surges. Surges that not only cause worsening acne, but also ridiculous mood swings, fatigue, hot flashes, worsened premenstrual syndrome and tender ta ta’s.

Lucky for me perimenopause only lasts an average of four to ten years. (Please insert sarcasm here.) After that, without some type of hormone therapy, it’s completely plausible that I’ll be able to grow a beard. But hey, at least they have contests for that!

(Incidentally, if you are also struggling with perimenopause, I’ve found several natural supplements that work for me. Ashwagandha root, a B-complex with ginseng and evening primrose are great for increasing energy, preventing hot flashes and improving stress response.)

For the most part I’m able to prevent most of my acne with the right skin care products – with one hold out. My chin seems to be completely immune to nearly everything I’ve tried. And with summer here, I feel like I constantly have a volcano erupting somewhere on my face. Especially since I sweat like a teenage boy.

Natural Lip Balm Recipe with Organic Essential Oils (For Less Than 50¢ Each!)

Feed your lip balm addiction with this simple natural lip balm recipe with organic essential oils. You’ll love how much money you can save just by making your own natural lip balms! In fact, you can craft my natural lip balm recipe with mostly certified organic ingredients for up to 500% less than what natural lip balms cost in stores!

Essential Oils Natural Lip Balm Recipe with Ginger & Cardamom. Feed your lip balm addiction with this simple natural lip balm recipe with organic essential oils. You'll love how much money you can save just by making your own natural lip balms!

Everyone loves lip balm. And it seems we can never have just one. No longer reserved just for winter months, lip balms have become a year round staple. So whether you have chapped lips from excess sun exposure, wind burns or they’re suffering from drying, long lasting matte lip sticks, you need those lip balms!

I seem to always be losing lip balms. And since I never know when I’ll need one, I always have extras stashed away. Of course in the summer I always forget and leave my natural lip balms in my car. Which in turn leads to a melty mess. So I replace that lip balm (with no clue how half of it magically disappeared from the tube) only to have the same thing happen to me again. And of course, I always forget about them in pockets (they occasionally get washed) or lose them in the bottom of my purse or backpack.

Save Money With This Natural Lip Balm Recipe!

Replacing lip balms however can get expensive fast. Many natural lip balms, like the EOS brand lip balm, cost $3 or a more each. By making your own organic natural lip balms however, you can easily create a dozen natural lip balms for a fraction of the price.

I purchased the ingredients for my natural lip balm recipe with organic essential oils from Mountain Rose Herbs. Based on their current pricing structure, I was able to make my natural lip balms for about 23¢ each sans packaging. In most cases, your cost for packaging your lip balms will double the unit price.

This lip plumping lip balm recipe gives lips a zing of clove essential oil to help plump lips with the added bonus of bronze brown shimmery tint!

While slide tins do tend to cost more, you can buy a case of 24 slide tins from SKS Bottle & Packaging for about 60¢ each. Based on my natural lip balm recipe making eight .25 oz. lip balms, packaging your natural lip balms in slide tins will cost about 83¢ each.

However, if you decide to fill .15 oz. traditional white lip balm tubes, like those from Mountain Rose Herbs, this natural lip balm recipe actually makes thirteen homemade lip balms! These tubes run around 22¢ each (for a case of 50.) Therefore you can make thirteen tubes of natural lip balm recipe for around 46¢ each. Buying your own natural lip balms would cost you six times as much!

(Please note that none of my calculations include shipping costs as this can vary drastically from state to state. While others may choose to buy locally.)

Shop my favorite natural makeup, beauty & skin care products!

While a baker’s dozen of natural lip balms may seem like a lot, they do have a long shelf life. Plus, how many times has your son or daughter lost that new tube of lip balm you just bought? So rest assured, I’m sure you’ll find plenty of uses for your lip balm bounty.

I find that my friends and co-workers appreciate it when I have an extra tube of lip balm handy. Plus these natural lip balms are also great party favors as well as stocking stuffers during the holiday season. Even better, you can use the leftover ingredients to make even more lip balms! (I have a ton of homemade lip balm recipes!)

Alternately, these ingredients are also common natural ingredients in both homemade soap recipes as well as bath and beauty recipes such as body butters and hair masks.

Best Natural Deodorant Recipes to Kill Odor Causing Bacteria This Summer! Conquer summer sweat with this collection of the best natural deodorant recipes to kill odor causing bacteria this summer! And they're all baking soda free so they're suitable for even the most sensitive skin!

Ah summer. It’s the perfect time for outdoor adventures. Swimming, hiking, lazy Sundays on the river. But it’s also hot. And occasionally humid. And that means sweat! While many of us aren’t thrilled at the idea of sweating, there’s nothing worse than stinky summer sweat.

Underarm odor is caused by bacteria being broken down by the apocrine glands in our arm pits. And while many of us, myself included, turned to anti-perspirants for years to tackle tough odors and stop sweat, it’s not the best solution. With concerning possible links to both breast cancer and prostrate cancer, I’d rather not gamble with my health. Therefore I opt for using a natural deodorant with safe ingredients.

Best Natural Deodorants to Buy This Summer

Looking for an effective natural deodorant you can buy rather than DIY? I recommend the Nubian Heritage Indian Hemp and Haitian Vetiver Deodorant with Neem Oil. I tested out this deodorant after running out of my own and being unable to locate a baking soda free deodorant with magnesium last minute locally. Formulated with Propanediol, a tested effective natural ingredient derived from Corn in a fermentation process, this deodorant really does provide 24-hour odor protection.

I also like SmartyPits Natural/Aluminum Free Prebiotic Deodorant in Rosemary Mint. An aluminum-free, paraben-free, phthalate-free natural deodorant, this brand takes a smart approach to odor control by getting to its source. It feeds our body’s good bacteria with prebiotics in order to fight the odor causing bad bacteria.

I’ve found that Smarty Pits deodorant controls wetness better than the Nubian Heritage deodorant. However, it does not control odor for nearly as long. I sometimes apply both of these deodorants on super hot, sweaty days. The Nubian Heritage first, followed by Smarty Pits, for the perfect combination of both odor and wetness control.

(I buy SmartyPits deodorant from Grove Co. to save money on this and other natural home and health care products.)
