Vegan All-in-One Beauty Stick Recipe

Ingredients:

.25 oz. candelilla wax
.75 oz. babassu oil
.25 oz. fractionated coconut oil (or camellia seed oil)
.25 oz. Bulgarian rose floral wax
.2 oz. (lip + eye safe) coral mica
.05 oz. (lip + eye safe) cellini blue mica
.05 oz. (lip + eye safe) super pearly white mica

Instructions:

You will need a digital scale to weigh all of the ingredients for my all-in-one beauty stick recipe.

Begin by weighing out the candelilla wax and babassu oil into a small glass Pyrex measuring cup or similar. Heat in the microwave at 40% power until melted. Alternately you may also use a double boiler. Take care removing your melted ingredients from the microwave as the glass will be hot. I recommend using a towel or pot holder when handling.

Next, weigh out the fractionated coconut oil (or camellia seed oil) and rose wax. (The rose wax gives this all-in-one beauty stick recipe a beautiful light rose fragrance!) Mix these ingredients into the melted candelilla wax and babassu oil until thoroughly combined and the rose wax has melted.

Allow the mixture to cool slightly then weigh out and add the mica powders. Mix well so the mica is fully incorporated into the makeup base.

Now slowly and carefully pour your rose scented all-in-one beauty stick into a container or containers of your choice. I used the 1.5 oz. brown paperboard push up tubes from SKS Bottle & Packaging. (I poured mine a little too hot and it caused a hole down the center. You can avoid this by practicing patience and pouring at a cooler temperature. My bad.)

Once your vegan all-in-one beauty sticks have cooled, simply cap and label them as desired. You download my free PDF printable labels for my rose scented all-in-one beauty sticks here. (These labels are free for personal use only.)

To use your all-in-one beauty sticks, simply apply to eyelids, cheeks, or lips as desired. You can further blend the color with a makeup sponge if you like.

If you are creating your own DIY all-in-one beauty sticks to sell, there’s a lot of important information you should be aware of in order to be FDA compliant in the USA. You can find information on the FDA website regarding the use of color additives in cosmetics here.

In addition, mica-based pearlescent pigments and other composite pigments used in cosmetics are NOT FDA approved at this time. The FDA however is currently exercising discretionary enforcement of these color additives while they are in discussion over regulatory status and safety. You can find further discussion on this at Marie Gale’s blog here.

Cream Eyeshadow Recipe

Ingredients:

Matte oxide or ultramarine pigment powder in eye safe color of choice
Super Sparkles Mica or other eye safe mica in color of choice
Dimethicone

Instructions:

As you’re likely working with small amounts of pigments and mica that are more difficult to be weighed, I created this cream eyeshadow recipe so you can use any amount of pigment desired based on how many eyeshadows you want to create.

Begin by combining two parts of your matte oxide or ultramarine pigment powder with one part of the mica in a complementary color. Mix well until the mica and pigment powder are evenly distributed throughout.

If you want a completely matte cream eyeshadow simply omit the mica. For my shimmery purple cream eyeshadow pictured here, I specifically used Matte Violet Ultramarine Powder.

Now add a small amount of dimethicone and mix and mash the dimethicone into the pigment and mica. Continue until all of the pigment and mica stick together. You may want to wear gloves and mash with your fingers. This is a messy project no matter how you mix it. If you add too much dimethicone, add more pigment and mica.

Test a bit of the cream eyeshadow mixture on your hand to ensure you’ve reached a consistency that works.

Now use a knife to fill your eyeshadow pan. I used a 3 ml silver plastic jar with a hinged lid and clear window from SKS Bottle and Packaging. Clean up your work area using Dawn or oil.

I let my cream eyeshadow sit overnight before using. To use apply a small amount to lids with your finger and smooth and blend with an eyeshadow brush. Or simply apply with an eyeshadow brush using a bit of pressure to pick up the cream eyeshadow with the brush.

To remove your cream eyeshadow, use oil or a cream eye makeup remove or cleanser. I recommend my easy argan and rosemary facial cleansing oil. That recipe can be found here.

Now that you’ve made your first cream eyeshadow recipe you can try other colors and mica blends or even re-make your existing eyeshadows into cream eyeshadows.

For a similar cream eyeshadow that you can buy rather than DIY, I recommend Hikari’s Cream Pigment Eyeshadows who I recently discovered through ipsy’s monthly glam bag. (I love the color Mink which is not nearly as dark as it appears in the product photographs.)

How to Make Cream Eyeshadow - DIY Natural Handmade Mineral Cream Eyeshadow Recipe in Violet Shimmer

DIY Violet Mineral Cream Eyeshadow Recipe

Ingredients:

14 grams white cosmetic beeswax
28 grams 76 degree melt point coconut oil
8 grams grape seed oil
10 drops GMO-free Vitamin E oil
10 drops rosemary extract
1 gram matte lavender ultramarine pigment powder
8 grams matte orchid ultramarine pigment powder
1 gram silver mica

Tools & Supplies:

digital kitchen scale
plastic transfer pipettes
six – 10g (1/3 oz.) lip balm pots with lids
silicone chocolate flower mold
mixing utensil (a butter knife works great!)

Instructions:

This recipe is basically the same as my handmade 2 in 1 lip stain and cheek color recipe, but calls for different pigments and amounts to give you a bad boy bruise purple. Layer and use more for a deeper, more intense purple. Use less for a lighter shimmering purple. This also makes a great base for helping your powder eyeshadows stick longer.

Use a digital scale to weigh out the beeswax, coconut oil, grape seed oil and mica. Start by weighing out the beeswax in a glass pyrex measuring cup, then heat the beeswax in the microwave until melted, about 3 minutes. Carefully remove from microwave using a pot holder or kitchen towel, then stir in 28 grams of coconut oil. If mixture starts to solidify, place back in the microwave and heat for 20-30 seconds more until all ingredients have full melted. Now weigh out the grape seed oil and stir into the wax and coconut oil.

Using a plastic transfer pipette, add ten drops of vitamin E. Repeat with the rosemary extract using a new pipette to prevent cross contamination.

Finally weigh out the pigments and mica powders and stir into the cream shadow base. Mix well, then slowly pour the base equally into six (or seven) of the flower shaped cavities of your silicone mold. (Or simply pour into the lip balm pots if you don’t wish to mold your makeup.) Allow the makeup to harden completely, then remove each flower shaped shadow from the mold and place into each of your six lip balm pots and cap.

Fabulous and Fun Natural Homemade DIY Halloween Makeup

Allow your eyeshadow to harden completely – this generally takes about a day – before using for the best results. Then using a sponge or your fingertips, apply this cream purple mineral makeup under eyes, on eyelids around cheekbones and on lips! Or customize your look and put it anywhere you like! Go wild and blend a bit of red in with the purple under an eye to make your face look even more distressed. If needed you can help set your look with a light dusting of translucent powder.
