Natural ingredients matter. Whether it’s the food you eat or the beauty products you use, it’s important to know that you’re giving your body the best care possible. With Nature’s Way products from iHerb, I know I’m using ingredients that I can trust. So I recently used a collection of all natural Nature’s Way products to craft five simple, natural beauty recipes that you can make at home!

My roommate, Bambi, and I have very different views when it comes to self care. She enjoys cooking, while I enjoy crafting. We do agree on one thing though. We care for our skin using only quality, natural beauty products. Being on a budget, however, this sometimes means choosing between our favorite beauty products and our must have food supplements. With iHerb we don’t have to choose.

All of my favorite Nature’s Way ingredients are offered through iHerb. Because they’re food grade, Bambi gets to cook with whatever’s leftover. This is, of course, after I’m done getting crafty in her kitchen. It’s a win win for both of us.

While I think Nature’s Way Beet Root Powder is a tasty natural colorant for lip balms, Bambi enjoys throwing it into her red velvet cake mix for both color and a bit of extra sweetness.

I also finally got her hooked on cooking with turmeric more often. (Which I didn’t think was possible.) Nature’s Way turmeric powder makes a wonderful addition to her curry dishes. On the other hand I love using turmeric in my anti-aging skin care recipes.

I couldn’t believe how much more bright and fragrant Nature’s Way standardized turmeric powder was compared to my usual brand. It’s kind of funny because the other day I made a turmeric acne treatment stick for our adult acne. Then Bambi comes home and uses the same turmeric that evening in an amazing Egyptian dish we had for dinner.

Having never shopped online with iHerb before, I was pretty thrilled by how easy it was to register for an account. As you can sign up using one of your social media accounts, it means one less password you have to remember. I also really like that they offer multiple shipping options. Sometimes I need ingredients for my natural beauty recipes right away. So having the option for one-day delivery is a lifesaver!

In addition, iHerb sells over 400 Nature’s Way products. So it’s easy to discover new ingredients and keep everyday favorites in stock. However, I was really psyched to learn that they ship their products to over 160 countries. I know that some of my readers have had to make substitutions in my natural beauty recipes in the past. Certain ingredients aren’t always available in every country. By shopping with iHerb, you won’t have to make substitutions for any of the ingredients I use. Additionally, iHerb also offers customer support in ten different languages to make shopping for what you need even easier.

I bought all of the Nature’s Way ingredients I needed for these natural beauty recipes from iHerb. After trying Nature’s Ways products, I am blown away by the quality. So I can’t wait to create even more simple, natural beauty recipes for you all to try! (Bambi on the other hand is hard at work hunting down new dinner recipes to cook!)

2-in-1 Lip & Blush Beauty Stick Recipe

Ingredients:

3 oz. Nature’s Way Extra Virgin Organic Coconut Oil
2 oz. Nature’s Way Beet Root Powder
1 oz. beeswax pastilles

Instructions:

This natural 2-in-1 beauty stick is an easy and all natural way to add a touch of color to your lips and cheeks. The combination of the natural coconut smell from Nature’s Way Extra Virgin Coconut Oil combined with the sweetness from the beet root powder is guaranteed to make this your new favorite lip balm! Plus, it’s so easy to craft! As it requires just three simple ingredients, this is easily one of my favorite all-time natural beauty recipes.

To get started you will need a digital scale to weigh out the ingredients.

Begin by weighing out the extra virgin coconut oil. Heat the coconut oil in double boiler. Then weigh out and add the Nature’s Way Beet Root Powder

Stir the beet root powder into the coconut oil so it’s combined evenly throughout the melted oil.

Gently heat for an additional five to ten minutes, stirring occasionally, to infuse the color from the beet root powder into the oil.

Now strain the beet root powder from the oil using a fine mesh strainer. (This will keep your beauty stick from feeling grainy.) Return the coconut oil to the double boiler.

Next, weigh out the beeswax pastilles and combine in the double boiler with the coconut oil. Gently heat until the beeswax has fully melted, then stir well to integrate the melted beeswax with the tinted coconut oil.

Carefully pour the mixture into lip balm containers of your choice, then allow to cool before capping. (This natural beauty recipe will yield about six 2-in-1 beauty sticks depending on the size of your containers.)

To use, simply apply to lips or cheeks as desired.

Aloe Hydrating Facial  Mist Recipe

Ingredients:

3 oz. Nature’s Way Aloe Vera Leaf Juice
1 oz. witch hazel
24 drops lavender essential oil

Instructions:

With fall on the way, skin tends to dry out more often. If you have maturing skin, keeping your skin hydrated is more important than ever. An easy way to keep your skin from feeling tight and dry is to use a simple aloe hydrating facial mist. This natural beauty recipe not only hydrates skin, it also helps to keep it balanced. So this product is still super beneficial in the summer when skin tends to be oilier.

To make this recipe, simply measure out the Nature’s Way Aloe Vera Leaf Juice and witch hazel and combine in a 4 oz. mister spray bottle. Add the lavender essential oil, then shake well to mix.

To use, simply mist onto your face (and body!) as needed to soothe and refresh skin. Be sure to keep your aloe hydrating facial mist refrigerated between uses. And shake your container prior to each use.

Turmeric Acne Treatment Stick Recipe

Ingredients:

3 oz. Nature’s Way Extra Virgin Organic Coconut Oil
1 oz. beeswax pastilles
.25 oz. Nature’s Way Standardized Turmeric Powder
12 drops tea tree essential oil
12 drops lavender essential oil
12 drops peppermint essential oil

Instructions:

Adult acne is the worst. I mean, it was bad enough when we went through puberty, right? In addition to taking a daily probiotic to help prevent acne, you can also craft this easy turmeric acne treatment stick to tackle breakouts as they happen.

You will need a digital scale to weigh out the ingredients for this recipe.

Begin by weighing out the Nature’s Way Extra Virgin Organic Coconut Oil and beeswax pastilles. Combine these ingredients in a double boiler then gently heat until melted.

Remove the double boiler from heat, then weigh out and stir in the Nature’s Way Standardized Turmeric Powder. Add the essential oils then mix again to evenly distribute all of the ingredients throughout the mixture.

Now pour the melted ingredients into lip balm tubes of your choice and allow to cool before capping. (This natural beauty recipe makes around six acne treatment sticks depending on the the size of your container.)

To use your turmeric acne treatment stick, simply apply as a spot acne treatment as needed.

Acne Busting Charcoal Face Mask Recipe

Ingredients:

1 oz. bentonite clay
.5 oz. Nature’s Way Coconut Activated Charcoal
.25 oz. fine sea salt
Nature’s Way Aloe Vera Leaf Juice, to suit

Instructions:

Urban living exposes our skin to a lot of toxins from industry and car pollution. You can help to counteract this, and clear your pores, using this simple charcoal face mask recipe. Not only does it help to detox skin by drawing out impurities like dirt and oil, it can also help to prevent acne.

To make this acne busting charcoal face mask recipe you’ll need to weigh out the clay, Nature’s Way Coconut Activated Charcoal and the sea salt. Combine the ingredients in a glass bowl, then mix well using a non-metal utensil to combine.

Once all of the ingredients are evenly incorporated throughout this dry face mask, empty the contents into your container of choice for storage.

When you’re ready to use your charcoal face mask, simply remove the desired amount of the dry mask from your container. Then add enough Nature’s Way Aloe Vera Leaf Juice to form a paste. Apply the mask evenly to clean skin, taking care to avoid the eye area.

Leave the face mask on for five to ten minutes, then rinse and pat dry. Follow with your favorite moisturizer.

The Correlation Between Aging and Self Esteem

I’ve always looked much younger than my age. When I gave birth to my son at 21 it was assumed by strangers that I was a teenage mother. And back when I would sell handmade soaps at the local farmer’s market the other market vendors used to joke that my soap kept me young. I, of course, joked back that alcohol was a preservative. But either way, neither were true.

A lot of how we age comes from our genetics. My mother, a spirited ginger, has always looked at least a decade younger than she really is. She’s also avoided cigarettes and drinking her entire life, her vice being her love of potatoes.

Aging is a tricky thing. Not everyone ages at the same rate. Sun exposure and lifestyle can also influence aging. But regardless of both genetics and lifestyle choices no one escapes the ravages of time.

While others don’t always notice the subtle changes happening to our own bodies, we are with ourselves everyday. So we catch those subtle nuances. The scars we’ve compiled over the years. Quickly duplicating laugh lines. The mysterious age spots that we still swear are freckles. (Prove they aren’t!) That slow emergence of a double chin. Skin tags in troubling places. In fact I found a new skin tag under my arm just yesterday!

No one wants to age. Not really. And watching it in slow motion from month to month and year to year can be a hard pill to swallow. It’s no wonder that women (and men!) in their forties still struggle with self esteem issues. I certainly do. And when you compile unwanted changes to your body with weight gain, failed relationships, money issues, problems at work – some days you may not even recognize who you’ve become.

While my self esteem has definitely taken a tumble lately, I’ve been seriously trying to come with terms with this aging thing. Not to mention that every year I look more and more like my mother did when she was my age. (Don’t you just hate that?) I’m hoping that as I work through peri-menopause in my forties I also learn how to love my wrinkles. At the same time, is that really even possible?

The global anti-aging market is expected to make $331.41 billion by 2021. (Source.) These anti-aging products currently target Baby Boomers, Generation X and Generation Y, with Baby Boomers and Gen-exers being the most cost effective market. We are spending an insane amount of money on anti-aging products as a result of our insecurities and faltering body image.

Products like UV absorbers, anti-stretch mark products, anti-wrinkle creams and hair color, not to mention anti-pigmentation therapy, liposuction services, chemical peels, and hair restoration consume a large portion of our disposable income. And the more we age, the more we’re willing to spend to fight it.

I admit, I am guilty AF at making these types of purchases. And while they are certainly a frivolous expense for any lower income household, Americans alone are spending over $11 billion a year on plastic surgery, dermatology, and cosmetology treatments in order to look younger.

Anti-Aging Skin Care Products I Can’t Live Without

My go to anti-aging products include a microdermabrasion scrub, a retinol serum (which has helped considerably with scarring from multiple dog bites) and a hyaluronic acid cream.

Because these products are so expensive, I often look for ways to save money on them. This includes, at times, making my own natural anti-aging products. Not only is it more cost effective over the course of a year to make my own DIY anti-aging beauty products, it also allows me to customize these products around my skin care needs.

I can rarely afford to buy my favorite anti-aging microdermabrasion scrub. It’s price tag is too steep for my current budget for how quickly I fly through a container. While day creams or a retinol serum may last me two months, microdermabrasion scrubs tend to be gone in two weeks in my over zealous hands. However microdermabrasion scrubs do a great job at preventing and getting rid of my skin tags and textured facial skin.

So rather than give up this product all together, I decided to create my own anti-aging microdermabrasion scrub recipe with nutrient rich sea kelp. Purchasing the ingredients for this recipe allows me to create enough containers of anti-aging microdermabrasion scrub to last the entire year. So it costs considerably less per ounce. Simply make up a fresh batch when you finish off the old one.

About the Ingredients in My Anti-Aging Microdermabrasion Scrub Recipe

Formulated using bamboo extract powder (which is naturally rich in silica) and super fine pumice powder, this anti-aging microdermabrasion scrub recipe gently exfoliates facial skin. This helps to remove dull surface cells and diminish the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and acne scars.

The addition of sea kelp then helps to moisturize maturing skin while also calming inflammation. Effective at reducing outbreaks of both rosacea and acne, sea kelp is also rich in vitamins and trace minerals. When used topically for natural skin care applications, sea kelp acts as a firming agent and helps to promote healing.

Finally, I rounded off my nutrient rich anti-aging microdermabrasion scrub recipe with the addition of cucumber seed oil and baobab oil. Both of these natural carrier oils offer anti-aging skin care benefits for maturing skin. They are equally moisturizing and both possess anti-inflammatory properties.

Cucumber seed oil in particular is rich in phytosterols, tocopherols, tocotrienols, and fatty acids. It not only hydrates and nourishes maturing skin, but also promotes the reduction of wrinkles. It’s particular soothing for anyone suffering from eczema or psoriasis and is naturally rich in vitamins C and E.

Cold pressed cucumber seed oil is commonly used in skin care applications to detox pores, lighten age spots, reduce skin redness and irritation, prevent acne and to fight off those pro-aging free radicals that can cause premature aging.

Baobab oil is also a wonderful anti-aging powerhouse. A naturally cleansing oil, this antioxidant rich carrier oil moisturizes dry or maturing skin, soothes irritation and promotes healing. It can also be used to help eliminate or reduce under eye bags, boost collagen production and reduce the appearance of scars while preserving skin elasticity.

Following you’ll find my anti-aging microdermabrasion scrub recipe. Use this natural anti-aging microdermabrasion scrub to cleanse and exfoliate your face. Then, leave it on for 5-10 minutes afterwards for a nutrient rich mask that hydrates skin and helps to prevent the recurrence of acne.

Anti-Aging Microdermabrasion Scrub Recipe (And Face Mask in One!)

© Rebecca D. Dillon

Ingredients:

.8 oz. super fine pumice stone powder
.5 oz. bamboo extract (powder)
.1 oz. sea kelp (powder)
.5 oz. cucumber seed oil
.25 oz. baobab oil

Optional Ingredients:

1/8 teaspoon vitamin C powder
12-15 drops of an essential oil or essential oil blend

Instructions:

You will need a digital scale to weigh out the ingredients for my anti-aging microdermabrasion scrub recipes. I am partial to this bakers math scale which can also be used for making homemade soaps.

Using a digital scale weigh out the pumice stone powder and bamboo extract. Combine in a medium glass bowl. If you’d like to add a fruit powder for extra vitamin C, then measure out and add 1/8 teaspoon of cosmetic grade vitamin C powder.

Thoroughly mix the dry ingredients to combine.

Next weigh out the carrier oils into a separate container. If desired, add an essential oil of your choice.

Now pour the dry ingredients into the liquid ingredients. Mix both the dry and liquid ingredients together with a fork until all the oils and powders are evenly distributed throughout.

Easy Holistic Beauty & Skin Care Recipes That You Can Make at Home! You don't have to spend a fortune to enjoy luxury skin care and natural beauty products. Instead you can make your own DIY holistic skin care & beauty recipes at home! These natural skin care recipes work as well as big natural beauty industry products, but without the steep price tag.

My roommate’s house is heavily wooded in the backyard. As a result, a multitude of strange insects, not to mention bird poop, tend to drop from the trees. So my car is often covered in odd looking spiders with turquoise pedipalps and slimy looking larvae. Don’t even get me started on the tree sperm. (Er, pollen.) There’s simply no escaping it.

Yesterday evening I walked back into the house after taking my dog, Jasper outside. I then retired to my bedroom to watch television with my boyfriend, Greg, after dinner. It didn’t take long to discover a black segmented insect of some sort crawling on me. My immediate reaction was to jump up and down and frantically brush off my body and clothing to rid myself of whatever this bug was.

Greg laughed at me and told me he really enjoyed my dance. But, he stated, “You would never survive in the deep South.” This then led into a less than favorable discussion about palmetto bugs – which are fricking huge flying cockroaches! – and the like. Unknown or simply gross insects are kind of my kryptonite. If they have the ability to spike my anxiety, or even worse, bite and potentially poison me, I want it gone as soon as possible.

The same can be said for toxic skin care products. It wasn’t that long ago that Johnson & Johnson lost a lawsuit claiming that their talc based baby powder caused cervical cancer. It was ruled that there was a link between talc and cancer in a court case involving 63-year-old Eva Echeverria. She later died of cervical cancer on Sept. 20, 2017. This ruling – and the award – was later overturned. However it does raise questions about potentially harmful skin care and beauty products. And whether or not we can trust the companies selling us these products.

As we discover more about the cancer causing and potentially toxic ingredients that the beauty industry has been putting in our beauty and skin care products over the years, it’s no wonder there’s a shift toward holistic skin care. With the average lifespan for women lengthening and the cost of healthcare rising, who can afford to get sick? (The cost for treating cervical cancer can run as much as $82,324 for just the first year of treatment!)

Luckily there’s been a shift in the skin care and cosmetics industry here in the United States towards more natural beauty products. A lot of these natural skin care products tend to be more expensive than their synthetic alternatives however. But you don’t have to pay a high prices tag for your health where beauty and skin care is involved. You can make your own easy holistic beauty & skin care recipes at home.

DIY Sheet Mask for Sensitive Skin for Less Than 10 Cents!

DIY Sheet Mask for Sensitive Skin. Make this DIY sheet mask for sensitive skin for under 10 cents each! Check out this simple holistic beauty recipe to learn what ingredients to use for your DIY sensitive skin sheet masks, why these natural ingredients make a difference and where to buy sheet masks to use for your own budget friendly DIY Sheet Face Masks.

Every day, I wash, tone, use serum, and apply moisturizer to keep my skin healthy. On the weekend, I use a mask to hydrate and moisturize, and mid week I use a clay mask or a microdermabrasion scrub to exfoliate. Lately, I’ve been using sheet masks because they are so easy to make and work well with my skin.

You can’t walk down the beauty aisle in any drug store without seeing a display of sheet masks. They are inspired by the Korean beauty craze that’s becoming popular in the United States and all over the world. Sheet masks are a cotton or muslin sheet of cloth that are cut to fit your face with nose and eye holes cut out of the fabric.

Most masks work by exfoliating your skin or cleaning your pores so they appear smaller. Sheet masks work a little different. They usually have anti-aging products or skin serums for hydration.

DIY Sheet Mask for Sensitive Skin

The liquid in a sheet mask is water based, so it evaporates quickly. Without the fabric sheet, you wouldn’t get as many benefits from the products because they evaporate too quickly. The sheet stops evaporation, so the products can get absorbed deeper into your skin.

Another benefit to using sheet masks is that you can switch them up without a big commitment to one product. Sometimes I need a mask for acne, and other times I need one for hydration. With a sheet mask, you can use a different kind each week without having several bottles on the shelf.

I use a sheet mask about once a week. I’ve seen them as low as $2 per mask, but good ones cost $10 or more. Cheaper masks don’t always work well because they evaporate too quickly even with the sheet of fabric or they use low quality ingredients that just won’t help your skin.

If you use a $10 mask once a week, you’ll spend $40 a month just on masks. I bought a pack of 100 sheet masks for under $10 shipped! At less than 10 cents per mask, it’s a significant savings.

Chamomile Tea

Chamomile tea is the base of this DIY sheet mask for sensitive skin. Chamomile is known for being calming, but it also has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. Chamomile can also cleanse and soothe your skin.

Milk

Raw milk is the best type of milk to use topically because heating milk destroys some of the enzymes that help your skin and changes the fat structure. If you don’t have raw milk, you can use any type of milk or even milk powder.

Raw milk is rich in alpha hydroxy acids, antioxidants, calcium, and B vitamins. It’s a wonderful moisturizer for sensitive skin because it won’t irritate your skin.

Honey

Honey wonderful for most skin types. It’s naturally antibacterial and anti-inflammatory. It naturally moisturizes your skin without making it oily, and the enzymes in honey help exfoliate the top layer of skin so it reach deeper in your skin.

Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender essential oil is considered one of the most gentle oils for the skin. It’s said to be soothing and can be beneficial even for skin affected by eczema or psoriasis.

Recipe: DIY Sheet Mask For Sensitive Skin

Ingredients:

¼ cup brewed chamomile tea, cooled
¼ cup milk
2 tablespoons rolled oats, ground
2 teaspoons honey
3 drops lavender essential oil

Instructions:

Start by brewing chamomile tea. I used one tea bag in 8 ounces of water and let the tea bag sit in the water until cool so it was more concentrated.

Meanwhile, grind the oats in a food processor or clean coffee mill.

Dip the sheet mask into the mixture and let soak for a minute. Pull the mask out and let drip dry. You want it to be wet but not dripping, so you may have to squeeze out some of the liquid.

Open the mask completely and place on your face. Smooth out any wrinkles so the mask is laying flat on your skin.

Let sit for 30 minutes. Remove the mask and discard. Rinse your face and follow with your favorite moisturizer if desired.

Discard leftover tea and milk solution. You can only use this mask twice a week, but the tea and milk will only last about a day.

Since you will have extra liquid, why not grab a friend and have an at home spa day?

Created as a dupe to the clariSEA Deep Pore Detox Activated Charcoal Exfoliating Mask, this activated charcoal detox mask recipe draws out impurities, clears up blackheads and removes excess oil for reduced breakouts and faster healing times.

This anti-aging yogurt face mask recipe is suitable for all skin types but it’s especially nice for those of us trying to fight the appearance of aging. Because yogurt contains lactic acid, an alpha hydroxy acid that dissolves dead skin cells, the use of yogurt in a face mask can help to diminish the appearance of lines and wrinkles as well as fight breakouts.

My anti-aging yogurt face mask recipe contains all natural ingredients that help to moisturize both aging and/or sensitive skin while also helping to prevent acne and premature aging. It can also help to calm irritated skin and reduce discoloration. Another plus? It’s incredibly easy to make!

And, because my yogurt face mask recipe is a dry mask, it has a much longer shelf life than a wet mask would.

Ingredients:

1 oz. bentonite clay (acne prone skin) or 1 oz. Rhassoul Clay (sensitive or dry skin)
.5 oz. yogurt powder
.5 oz. rose kaolin clay
.5 oz. marshmallow root powder
.25 oz. corn silk powder
1 Tablespoon calendula petals
1 mL (about 20 drops) frankincense (Boswellia Serrata) essential oil

Instructions:

Using a digital scale, weigh out all of the dry ingredients into a medium sized glass bowl or 2-cup Pyrex measuring cup.

Whisk dry ingredients together until thoroughly mixed.

Now, measure out the frankincense essential oil using a graduated plastic transfer pipette.

Add the essential oil to your yogurt mask mixture a drop at a time whisking as you go.

Once the essential oil has been evenly distributed throughout the mask you can package your yogurt face mask into the container(s) of your choice.

To use simply combine about a Tablespoon of the dry face mask with enough milk, water, honey or a carrier oil of your choice to form a paste. Then apply to freshly cleansed skin avoiding the eye area. Leave on 3-5 minutes, then rinse and gently pat dry.

If you’d like to make my yogurt face mask recipe to sell, then you’ll need to label your product according to FDA guidelines. If you are unsure about labeling laws then I highly recommend the book, Soap and Cosmetic Labeling: How to Follow the Rules and Regs Explained in Plain English, by Marie Gale.
