Merlot Tinted Lip Balm Recipe

Ingredients:

.7 oz. grapeseed oil
.3 oz. castor oil
.2 oz. shea butter
.6 oz. beeswax
.1 oz. lanolin
1.5mL peppermint essential oil, optional
2 teaspoons red orange oil locking mica shimmer
1 teaspoon Diamond Dust (or similar) mica
1/2 teaspoon matte black oxide pigment powder

Instructions:

Using a digital scale, begin by weighing out the beeswax into a small glass Pyrex measuring cup. Heat in the microwave at 50% power until the wax has melted completely. (Alternately you can use a double boiler.)

Now weigh out the shea butter and lanolin and stir into the melted beeswax. If needed, heat the ingredients again to melt fully.

Next weigh out the grape seed oil and castor oil. Stir into the melted beeswax, lanolin and shea butter mixture.

If a scent is desired, use a graduated transfer pipette to add 1/5 mL of peppermint essential oil. Stir into the tinted lip balm mixture.

Finally you’ll add the colorants.

Use measuring spoons to measure out the colorants. Whisk into the melted lip balm ingredients until thoroughly combined.

Now pour into your containers. For this merlot tinted lip balm recipe I used .3 oz. eco-friendly brown paperboard push up lip balm tubes from SKS Bottle & Packaging. This recipe will fill seven of these tubes.

Allow the lip balms to cool and solidify completely, then cap and label. (You can easily halve this tinted lip balm recipe to yield 3 1/2 lip balms. The fourth of which can be poured into a metal tin or a smaller regular sized lip balm container.)

You can download the merlot tinted lip balm labels here. Then simply print onto a brown kraft full size label, then cut out the labels just inside the black lines and adhere to the lip balm tubes. You can find kraft labels in bulk at reasonable prices at WorldLabelThis merlot tinted lip balm recipe creates a super moisturizing tinted lip balm for lips that look and feel fabulous! Create your own in custom colors for your own personal style or give my own fun and flattering tinted lip balm recipe a try as is for a beautiful look perfect for parties or everyday wear.

Prefer a different color for your tinted lip balms? Experiment with your own favorite pigments and micas or even try using more or less pigment for a sheer tint to a full blow lipstick! The red orange oil locking mica shimmer also looks great solo. My alternate recipe for my 2-in-1 lip stain and cream blush uses this same red orange oil locking shimmer mica for another fresh, fun look! For extra chapped lips, also try my winter healing body balm recipe that’s lovely for both lips and skin exposed to winter’s harsh elements.

Homemade Coffee Flavored Lip Balm Recipe (Made with Real Coffee!)

This Homemade Coffee Flavored Lip Balm Recipe makes a great treat for any coffee lover's lips! Plus it's made with real coffee making it extra crush worthy.

I’ve been putting all kinds of new bath & beauty recipe ingredients on my wish list lately. Unfortunately making my way through the entire list takes a while. After trying 100% Pure Cosmetics’ Organic Coffee Bean Eye Cream made with Arabica Coffee Seed Oil and Green Arabica Coffee Seed Oil I ended up with two more new ingredients for my wish list. I really wanted to use a natural coffee oil in my own under eye cream recipe for puffy eyes. (That recipe is next so be sure to follow my blog so you don’t miss it!)

However, as I’m pretty crafty and I have whole bean coffee at home, I decided to make a coffee infused oil in the meantime. It turned out quite nicely for the recipes I had in mind including this one for a homemade coffee flavored lip balm recipe!

To make my coffee infused oil I coarsely ground 3 Tablespoons of whole coffee beans in a coffee grinder. I then combined the grounds with 4 oz. by weight of olive oil over low heat for about 15 minutes, then strained the oil. As I did not have any cheesecloth handy and I’m often an impatient crafter, I improvised by taping a coffee filter to the top of a cup then poured the coffee and oil into the filter. Once the majority of the oil dripped through – yeah, it mostly worked – I carefully removed the filter and then squeezed the rest of the oil out into the cup. A few grounds got through, but nothing major.

Ingredients:

1 oz. coffee infused olive oil (see above)
.5 oz. refined shea butter
.5 oz. refined/deodorized cocoa butter
.25 oz. white cosmetic grade beeswax
10 drops clove essential oil
1/2 ml Kahlua flavor oil
1/2 ml Chocolate Devil’s Food Cake flavor oil
pinch of sugar (optional)

Instructions:

To create this coffee flavored lip balm recipe you’ll begin by using a digital kitchen scale weigh out the beeswax and cocoa butter in a glass Pyrex measuring cup. Heat in the microwave at reduced power (or in a double boiler) until half melted, then weigh out the shea butter and add to the cocoa butter and beeswax and continue heating until full melted.

Using a pot holder or kitchen towel to remove the measuring cup – it will get hot! – add a pinch of sugar, if desired, and stir well. Then weigh out and add the coffee infused olive oil to the mixture and stir thoroughly to combine.

Finally, using a different 3ml Graduated Plastic Transfer Pipettes for each oil, add ten drops of the clove oil and a measured 1/2 ml each of the flavor oils. Mix well then slowly pour the lip balm mixture into your containers of choice. I used .25 oz. slider tins for this project. If you also use slider tins you can expect this recipe to fill about 9 – 10 tins depending on how full you fill them. Be aware however that if you overfill them the lid will scrape off excess lip balm when you close it.

This Homemade Coffee Flavored Lip Balm Recipe makes a great treat for any coffee lover's lips! Plus it's made with real coffee making it extra crush worthy.Once your coffee flavored lip balms have cooled completely and solidified you can put the lids back onto the tins and add your own fun labels. To make my labels I simply turned one of the lids upside down and traced around it onto full size blank white label sticker sheets, then drew inside of that line. In addition to using permanent markers for my labels, I also used some really cool new washi tapes from Cute Tape. (I used both the Corner Japanese Washi Masking Tape and the Pink Cherry Blossom Snowflake Washi Tape.)

I even sent a few of these out with some of my recent orders as a surprise gift for the holidays! Some glassine bags, washi tape and red & white Baker’s Twine and they were all wrapped up like little gifts!

How to Make a DIY Soy Candle Making Kit to Gift to Teens and Tweens - Includes Printable Labels and Instruction Sheet

Still trying to find a homemade Christmas gift idea for those tough to shop for teens and tweens? If you have a young DIY-er in the family she’ll love this simple to assemble – and craft! – DIY Soy Candlemaking Kit! Keep reading to learn how to assemble your own.

How to Make a DIY Soy Candlemaking Kit

What you’ll need:

10 oz. of natural soy wax
1 oz. candle fragrance oil
two 8 oz. deep round tins with lids
2 large wooden wicks with bases
candy thermometer
printable candle safety & blank labels {download pdf file}
printable diy soy candle instruction sheet {download pdf file}
full size blank white sticker sheet(s)
three 5″ x 7″ clear poly zipper bags or equivalent
box to put it all in

What you do:

Using a digital kitchen scale weigh out 10 oz. of natural soy wax. Split the wax in half and put 5 oz. in one zipper bag and 5 oz. in another. If you like you can draw labels for the bags of wax onto blank sticker paper and adhere to each bag.

Next, if desired label the candle fragrance oil with a hand drawn label as well. I used a Jammin’ Rock Candy fragrance oil for my kit. It’s a really great scent for kids and I specifically chose this one for my niece. However, you can use any age appropriate fragrance – Snickerdoodle Latte maybe? – or your recipients favorite scent. I’m personally in love with Moonlight Pomegranate.

Print out the sticker candle safety labels and blank round labels for decorating the lid of the tin onto a full page sticker sheet.

Now print out the diy soy candlemaking kit instruction sheet onto a regular piece of paper.

Cut the sticker labels down to fit inside a third zipper poly bag. Place the stickers in the bag along with the two wooden wicks and bases.

Now place the bags of wax, the two tins, the fragrance oil, the sticker labels and wicks, a candy thermometer and the instruction sheet into a small box.

DIY Tempestuous Roll On Cologne for Men

DIY Cologne for Men - Tempestuous Cologne Recipe - Easy Homemade Gift Idea for Men - Also Make Great DIY Wedding Favors for the GuysThere’s a cologne fragrance for men called Fierce that’s distributed via Abercrombie & Fitch. However, in light of their recent negative press, you might be wary about making future purchases from them. Regardless of your stance, their cologne, Fierce, is still a great fragrance for men. But you don’t have to buy it because now you can actually DIY it. Very recently a dupe of this Abercrombie fragrance was developed as a fragrance oil. So not only can you now make your own handmade colognes for men with this great scent, you can also use the fragrance oil to produce other men’s products with this fragrance including homemade soaps, lotions and other masculine skin care products.

Following is a recipe for making your own Fierce-like cologne using a fragrance oil dupe created by Nature’s Garden called Ferocious Beast. Of course, I came up with my own name for this fragrance as well and dubbed mine Tempestuous. You can call yours whatever you like. But if you dig the name Tempestuous, I have created free printable labels for you to use on your own cologne oils you create with this recipe.

Nature Garden’s Ferocious Beast fragrance oil contains citrusy top-notes of orange, lemon and lime, leading to middle notes of rosemary, jasmine, lily of the valley, vetiver  and rose and finishing a woody, oakmoss and white musk base note. Create these as diy wedding favors or homemade stocking stuffer gifts for the guys.

Other fragrances for men you may be interested in trying include The Perfect Man, Game On, and Bay Rum. (Buy any 5 16oz. fragrance oils and receive a $1 off per container from Nature’s Garden.)
