DIY Shine Spray & Leave In Conditioner Recipe for Dry, Damaged Hair

Argan and Agave DIY Shine Spray and Leave In Conditioner Recipe for Dry, Damaged Hair

Are your locks dry, damaged and lacking luster? Give your hair new life with this intense Argan & Agave DIY Shine Spray and Leave In Conditioner Recipe. All it takes is a light misting all over or on damaged ends and your parched strands will once again feel moisturized and boast a healthy shine! It’s also great for taming frizz or using prior to all over summer festival hair braids to keep shorter strands in place.

Argan & Agave DIY Shine Spray Recipe

Ingredients:

.25 oz. Argan oil
.5 oz. fractionated coconut oil
.25 aloe vera gel
.3 oz. clear or natural jojoba oil
.2 oz. Cyclomethicone
.05 oz. Dimethicone
1ml light agave syrup
6 drops Propylene Glycol, optional

Instructions:

Using a digital scale weigh out the argan, fractionated coconut, and aloe oil as well as the Cyclomethicone and Dimethicone into a glass Pyrex measuring cup or medium glass or plastic beaker. Using a graduated plastic transfer pipette measure out the agave syrup and add it to the mix, then use a fresh pipetted to add six drops of the propylene glycol. If you wish to add a fragrance, add .1 oz. of fragrance oil of your choice. Stir to mix then using a funnel pour into a glass bottle with a fingertip mister and twist on the cap. Shake vigorously to comine all ingredients.

Because of the aloe vera gel, you will need to shake the DIY Shine Spray before each use. Be sure to use an aloe vera gel with a preservative if you don’t want to add your own. Mountain Rose Herbs makes a good one.

To use very lightly mist onto damp or dry hair and comb through.

If you find this is too conditioning for your hair, simply omit the Dimethicone.

Natural Homemade Hair Mask and Hair Conditioner Recipes

I have long, fine and straight hair that gets super dry in the winter which, of course, leads to frizz. And it’s not pretty. Unfortunately it’s still in the growing out stage from me wreaking havoc on it just under two years ago when I decided to dye it dark brown – so that it looked black – and bleach out “highlights” that I dyed a bright magenta. At this point, I could hack it off to the point where my “healthy” hair has grown out, but that would mean hair no longer than my chin – again. With cold weather still lurking about, I’m not sure I’m ready to make change. So what that means is shampoos and conditioners for dry and damaged hair and the occasional deep moisturizing treatment to wrangle it back in line.

So what’s a girl to do when even Aussie’s 3-Minute Miracle and Anti-Frizz Cream aren’t quite doing the trick anymore? Go old school and turn back to the basics for a deep conditioning hair treatment. Old school remedies from the kitchen really do work! Mayonnaise is great for moisture. Just apply and cover with a shower cap for about 8 minutes, then wash out. Or grab the olive oil from the pantry, heat a little in the microwave until warm, apply to hair and let sit for about 5 minutes, then wash out for a simple, yet effective hot oil treatment. Food not quite your gig? Raw butters and oils are great for your hair. Shea butter makes an excellent hair conditioners and oils like jojoba oil are great for moisture and shine! (You can buy quality, organic butters and oils from Mountain Rose Herbs.) There’s no need to buy hair care products with lots of “extras” and chemicals. In fact, preparing your own hair masks, hot oil treatments, and conditioners will save you money in the long run! If simple is just not your style, then you can play around with a combination of ingredients for the perfect treatment.

Quick Beauty Tips for a Beautiful, But Busy, You!

Making your own bath and body products can be a blast. It’s more cost effective than buying everything you need from the store, not to mention a lot of fun. Sometimes though, there’s just not enough time to craft our favorite beauty products. So here are a few quick beauty tips and diy recipes that you can create in a minimal amount of time with little to no effort. Stay gorgeous and keep crafting!
1. Refreshing Facial Mist. Fill a spritzer bottle with water and a few strips of julienned cucumber or sprigs of lavender and mint. Spritz on your face and body when out in the summer heat to keep cool and refreshed. You can also try this Cooling Mint Facial Mint Recipe that uses witch hazel in lieu of water, but requires a week’s waiting time to make a proper infusion before use.
2.) Use Honey as an Antiseptic. Raw, dark honey is a natural antiseptic that not only heals and hydrates, but also reduces inflammation and inhibits infection. Create a simple face mask with just honey and yogurt and take five minutes out of your long day to let it do its work.
3.) Exfoliate Skin with a Sugar Scrub. Exfoliate tired, rough skin with a sugar scrub. This quick recipe only requires three ingredients – all of which you  may already have lurking in your pantry! Prefer salt over sugar? Then concoct a three ingredient one time use salt scrub using salt, olive oil and a little lemon.
4.) Tone with Grapefruit. Tone your oily to combination skin with a natural skin care toner made from tea, grapefruit and witch hazel. Dry to normal skin? Use cucumber, milk and coconut water.
5.) Stimulate Your Hair and Scalp. Stimulate your hair and scalp with quick rinse made from carrot juice, fresh mint and warm water.
6.) Make a Cucumber Hair Drench. Three simple ingredients create a cucumber hair drench for revitalizing hair damaged by the sun’s rays and pool chlorine.
7.) Fight Breakouts with Apple Cider Vinegar. The high acid content of apple cider vinegar makes it perfect for fighting acne. Take ten minutes out of your day to steep a handful of clarifying parsley, then mix the cooled infusion in a spray bottle with a splash of vinegar and a few drops of tea tree oil.

8.) Freeze Aloe Vera Gel for Quick Sunburn Relief. Use an ice cube tray to freeze aloe vera into cubes for instant sunburn relief.

Cucumber Hair Drench Recipe

If you swim in a chlorinated pool for exercise on a regular basis, the same damage you’ve noticed happening to your skin and bathing suit, is happening to your hair, as well. Try this treatment at home to keep chlorine damage to a minimum.

Ingredients:
1 egg
1 eggshell’s worth of olive oil
1 quarter of a peeled cucumber
Instructions:
Blend the egg, olive oil and peeled cucumber. Spread evenly through your hair, leave on for 10 minutes, then thoroughly rinse. For the best results year-round, continue this treatment monthly.
