Since having learned that making or playing with homemade slime containing borax can possibly cause chemical burns, you may be looking for another option for your kids’ crafts. Preferably one that’s borax free. My DIY pumpkin spice soap is the perfect solution for seasonal fun for both kids and grown ups alike!

DIY Pumpkin Spice Soap that You Can Mold! A Fun Weekend DIY Project for All Ages. This DIY pumpkin spice soap makes a fun weekend craft project for both kids and adults! Made with a super easy moldable melt and pour soap recipe, these pumpkin spice soaps are also great for gifting.

I first tried out a version of this moldable soap recipe on a girls’ night and we had a blast! And because you can make these DIY pumpkin spice soaps as simple or as detailed as you like, they are suitable for elementary school kids and up. (However, you may want to prepare the moldable soap base prior to handling for younger children rather than involve them in the full soapmaking process.)

Here’s a photo of my friend, Cathy, with the pumpkin soap she made on our DIY night that inspired my own DIY pumpkin spice soap project. As you can see, there’s really no right or wrong way to make these pumpkin spice soaps. It’s all about having fun!

Not only is this fall soapmaking project easy to craft, but it’s also relatively inexpensive to get started.  In addition, because you can execute this soapmaking project in a half hour or less, it’s also perfect for gifts for that last minute event invite.

Ingredients:

4 oz. Stephenson Crystal Hemp Melt & Pour Soap Base
1.1 oz. liquid vegetable glycerin
.25 oz. cornstarch
.1 oz pumpkin pie spice fragrance oil
orange color bar or liquid orange soap colorant, optional
skin safe cosmetic mica powders in colors of choice
isopropyl alcohol

Instructions:

Using a digital scale, weigh out 4 oz. of the hemp melt & pour soap base and cut into chunks. Place the soap chunks in a glass Pyrex measuring cup or bowl, then heat in the microwave in 20-30 increments until melted. Add color to suit, if desired, and mix well.

Next, weigh out the cornstarch and glycerin and stir into the melted soap base. Follow with the fragrance oil, weighing out the necessary amount first.

Whisk the soap base with a fork until all of the cornstarch has dissolved and the soap starts to thicken. Once the soap has cooled and can be molded without sticking to your hands, it’s ready to use!

Working on a covered surface or parchment paper, shape the soap into a pumpkin with your hands the same way you would clay. You can use a butter knife to help add details around the pumpkin. Once you have a pumpkin shape you like, you can paint your pumpkin!

Simply mix a small amount of mica with isopropyl alcohol in a dish to desired consistency to create your soap paints. I used green, gold and copper micas to paint my DIY pumpkin spice soap.

I mixed the copper mica with alcohol first at a thinner consistency to push the paint into the grooves I made around the pumpkin.

Once I had mixed the color I simply used a small paint brush to paint the lines around my pumpkin shaped soap.

I then used a gold mica and alcohol to fill in the areas between those I painted copper. Finally, I mixed up green mica and isopropyl alcohol and used that color to paint the stem.

Once you’ve painted your pumpkin spice soap, allow it to dry fully before handling. Then package and label as desired for personal use or gifting!

Once used, the mica will wash off, leaving behind an orange shaped pumpkin soap that smells like pumpkin spice!

DIY Pumpkin Spice Body Butter! This golden glitter pumpkin spice body butter recipe will have everyone raving about how amazing you smell! Why Cream Eyeshadow?

Life is hectic. We have families and friends and work relationships. Some of us even have kids. And, if you’re like me, there a LOT of days you find yourself juggling to fit everyone and everything in while still taking time out for yourself. Personally, one of the ways I take time out for me is by simply putting on makeup. Just the process helps me on days I’m feeling blah and overstressed. Plus the fun colors give my mood a lift.

Plant based makeup is the new trend. However, you don't have to spend a fortune investing in premiere brand natural cosmetics to get it. Instead, try making your own! Simply start with a few natural ingredients and add micas to create your own custom colored makeup sticks!

When I’m short on time I find that multi-purpose 3-in-1 and even 4-in-1 products not only speeds up my makeup application when I’m under a time crunch, but they’re a lot easier to take on the go! My cream eyeshadow is one of those handy dandy multipurpose products. If you enjoyed my recipes for my All-in-One Beauty Stick for Lips, Eyes & Cheeks and my Rose Scented 4-in-1 All Over Cream Beauty Stick, then you’re going to love these cream eyeshadows! You can find two awesome DIY cream eyeshadow recipes below along with some great tips on getting the most out of these homemade cosmetics.

Ingredients:

.25 oz. white cosmetic beeswax
.5 oz. refined shea butter
.25 oz. refined rosehip seed oil
3 drops vitamin E oil
(plus one of the color choices below)

Mermaid Cream Eyeshadow Colorants:

.25 oz. cellini blue mica powder (or similar)
.25 oz. mermaid bio glitter

Unicorn Cream Eyeshadow Colorants:

.25 oz. party pink mica powder (or similar)
.25 oz. unicorn bio glitter

Instructions:

Using a digital scale, weigh out the beeswax and shea butter. Combine in a glass scientific beaker then heat in the microwave at 30% power until melted. Alternately you can also use a double boiler.

Next, weigh out the rosehip seed oil and stir into the melted wax and butter. Follow with a few drops of Vitamin E oil. Mix well.

Depending on which eyeshadow color you’d like to make, weigh out the mica and glitter into a separate container and mix well so that the glitter is distributed evenly throughout the mica. (I specifically chose cosmetic mica powders that were both lip and eye safe so that my DIY cream eyeshadows could also be used on lips. Don’t be afraid to switch up mica and glitter colors to create your own unique cream eyeshadow colors!)

Skip the Brush Cheek Stick

Mix the mica and bio glitter mixture into the melted wax, butter and oil using a wooden skewer or similar. As the cream eyeshadow base starts to thicken, mix again so the that the mica and glitter that have sunk to the bottom are mixed throughout the entire base. Once the eyeshadow is creamy and no longer a liquid, mix again to ensure the colorants are evenly distributed.

Now scoop or spoon your DIY cream eyeshadows into your containers of choice. I used BPA free 5 gram lip balm pots for my cream eyeshadows.

Allow the eyeshadows to finish setting up, then screw on the lids. Once I made my DIY cream eyeshadows I decorated the lids by glueing on kawaii bunny cabochons with E6000 craft glue. This is a simple and fun way to dress up your eyeshadow containers for gift giving.

After 24 hours have passed, your DIY cream eyeshadows are ready to use!

Tips for Using Your DIY Cream Eyeshadows

You’ll find that your super pigmented cream eyeshadows allow for quicker application than powder eyeshadows, saving you time.

For best results, use a synthetic eyeshadow brush for application in order to avoid the streaking you can get when using your fingers. Follow with a complimentary powder shadow or finishing powder or even a powder highlighter to set your shadow so it doesn’t transfer.

Don’t feel confined to use your new cream eyeshadows just as an eyeshadow! These DIY cream eyeshadows can also be used as a primer for glitter as well as powder eyeshadows for a super custom look. Alternately you can also use your cream eyeshadows as smooth gel-like eyeliners, blush and even lipstick! So don’t be afraid to play with colors and looks – especially if you plan to rock your new cream eyeshadows as part of your Halloween look!

DIY Halloween Candy Jar

DIY Halloween Candy Jar

I stay so busy I sometimes find it hard to break away from the day job and the soap to make something other than bath and body products. However, I did find the time to craft this simple DIY Halloween candy jar. It was not only quick and easy to make, but I was able to stick to my daily routine of multi-tasking everything while waiting for the paint and then the glue to dry.

To make things even easier, I had all of the craft supplies for this DIY Li’l Piggy Candy Jar Craft Project delivered to me right at work via Darby Smart so there was no hunting for the things I needed. I seem to be pretty addicted to their craft kits because of this. I love trying new crafts from time to time and Darby Smart makes it so quick and easy for me to do so.

What you’ll need:

a mason jar lid
3″ terra cotta pot
plastic bowl
plastic toy pig (or other animal)
black Krylon Short Cuts Spray Paint
E6000 glue

What you do:

Begin by using the E6000 glue (or superglue gel works too) to glue the top of the mason jar lid to the ring. Allow to dry.

DIY Halloween Candy Jar Project

Next spray paint the mason jar lid, the plastic toy pig, and the terra cotta pot. Cover each piece evenly. Allow to dry fully – at least a half hour – then add a second coat.

Once dry use the glue to secure the round plastic bowl to the terra cotta pot by turning the pot upside down and adhering the bowl so the open end faces up. Also glue the painted pig to the top of the mason jar lid.

This DIY Halloween Candy Jar is quick and easy to make and looks great whether you're filling it with candy corn or gum balls! Learn how to make your own!

Once the glue has dried completely, you’re all set to fill your new DIY Halloween Candy Jar with candy or treats for guests. I filled mine with my favorite, candy corn! Want to purchase this DIY Halloween Candy Jar Kit for yourself? Visit Darby Smart here.

DIY Halloween Pumpkin Bath Bomb Recipe

DIY Halloween Pumpkin Bath Bomb Recipe

Treat yourself this fall with this easy DIY Halloween Pumpkin Bath Bomb Recipe. You’ll love the intoxicating scent of pumpkin spice from your favorite fragrance oil and the moisturizing shea butter, sesame oil and detoxifying sea salt. Plus, with a few tips you can make these perfect the very first try!

Ingredients:

13.5 oz. baking soda
8 oz. citric acid
3 oz. fine sea salt
2 oz. white kaolin (cosmetic) clay
1.5 oz. shea butter
1.5 oz. sesame oil
8 ml pumpkin or pumpkin spice fragrance oil of choice
pinch each of red iron oxide and yellow iron oxide pigment powders

Directions:

You’ll need a Wilton Silicone Leaf and Pumpkin Mold for this project. (You can also use this mold for my DIY Pumpkin Spice Air Fresheners and Pumpkin Fall Soap Recipe!) I also used a round bath bomb mold (optional.) (Note: The original Wilton leaf and pumpkin silicone mold I used for this project is not longer available online. However, they do have a great pumpkin silicone mold as well as this fun leaf and acorn silicone mold.)

Begin by using a digital scale begin by weighing all of the dry ingredients and combining them in a large glass bowl or an 8-cup Pyrex measuring cup. Mix well to combine using a fork then add a pinch each of the pigment powders. (You only need a small amount! The color comes through when you add the wet ingredients.)

In a separate container weigh out the shea butter then melt in the microwave or a double boiler. Then weigh out and add the sesame oil to the melted shea butter.

Using a graduated plastic transfer pipette, measure out the fragrance oil and stir into the wet ingredients. Mix well.

Now slowly pour the melted shea butter and sesame oil into the dry ingredients mixing as you go. Combine thoroughly so the entire mixture is damp.

You’re now ready to use your mold(s)! This recipe yielded three pumpkin bath bombs, one leaf bath bomb and one round bath bomb for me.

To mold your bath bombs take a large scoop of the mixture and place into your first pumpkin cavity. Add more until the bath bomb mixture is piled above the shape. DO NOT press any of the mixture into the mold until you’ve done this. Now press the mixture firmly into the mold all at once. Brush away the excess.

(Pressing the bath bomb mixture into the mold in stages will cause it to separate at those points and break apart.)

Repeat with the additional cavities.

You’ll want to wait two days before unmolding these to unmold clean shapes.

To create the round bath bomb(s) overfill each half of the round bath bomb mold the same way you did the silicone mold. Do NOT press the sides into the mold halves before joining them or you’ll end up with half circle bath bombs. Now press each overfilled side of the mold halves firmly together. Brush away any excess from the edges. (I also twisted the two halves of my mold together a bit.) You can gently unmold these immediately or wait a day.

To unmold the pumpkin and leaf bath bombs I first placed a cutting board on top of the mold then gently turned them over together in order to prevent any of the bath bombs from accidentally dropping out and breaking. Then I gently pressed each bath bomb out of the cavities.

Sore muscles? Substitute the sea salt in this pumpkin bath bomb recipe with epsom salt! You can also substitute the sesame oil with any other of your favorite carrier oils!

DIY Halloween Pumpkin Bath Bomb Recipe

Once your pumpkin bath bombs have dried completely, they are ready to package! Simply wrap your bath bombs in plastic food service film or shrink wrap or use them right away! To use, simply add one bath bomb to warm running bath water, allow to dissolve and enjoy!
