If you’ve ever suffered from eczema then you understand how awful it can be. Finding relief from over-the-counter topical eczema treatments, however, can be a challenge. Often times, I’ve found, these products make my eczema worse. This natural eczema treatment is different.

Natural Eczema Treatment for Real Relief from Eczema & Dry Skin. This natural eczema treatment knocks over-the-counter eczema creams out of the water. The struggle to find a natural eczema treatment that works.

You may remember my anti-aging serum recipe I shared two weeks ago. The carrier oils used in that serum are also incorporated into my natural eczema treatment. So if you’re looking for more ways to use those ingredients, this natural eczema relief balm is the perfect recipe!

While I’ve been lucky and haven’t struggled with eczema since eliminating most dairy products from my diet, not all of us are able to escape our eczema through diet alone. In fact, my dear friend Cathy, recently had her eczema flare up so badly, she ended up with open wounds from scratching. And, like most of us, she went through an array of over-the-counter eczema treatment products. None of which actually offered any relief from her symptoms. A few of them, in fact, actually made her skin burn. While others made the itching worse.

As I had plans to meet up with Cathy for Wine & Art Wednesday, I quickly threw together a natural eczema remedy for her irritated skin. My natural eczema relief balm worked fabulously on Cathy’s eczema. While the anti-aging serum (sans the essential oils) I also created the same day, did wonders for the eczema on her face.

Crafting a natural eczema relief balm recipe.

Since making my natural eczema treatment for Cathy, I’ve revised my natural eczema relief balm recipe three more times. The recipe I’m presenting you with today, is the result of those changes. This natural eczema remedy has the consistency of a rich, creamy beauty balm. It fully absorbs into skin after about a minute or so. In addition to soothing itchy and inflamed skin, it also moisturizes and protects skin while still allowing skin to breathe.

I formulated my natural eczema treatment with essential oils. However, if fragrances or essential oils irritate your eczema, you can simply omit them from my natural eczema relief balm recipe. The remainder of my eczema repair balm is made up of other primarily plant based, natural ingredients with the exception of lanolin and beeswax. These ingredients include skin conditioning shea butter and murumuru butter as well as rosehip seed, moringa seed and borage carrier oils. 100% vitamin E oil is also added for its ability to promote healing.

About the ingredients in my natural eczema treatment.

Every ingredient used for my natural eczema relief balm was chosen with care for its ability to remedy eczema. Following are details on the skin care benefits of some of these ingredients.

Borage Oil

Borage oil is one of the key ingredients in my natural eczema relief balm much like my anti-aging serum. It offers a variety of natural skin care benefits especially for those who suffer from acne, eczema, skin reddening and rosacea. This natural oil is suitable for even the most sensitive skin and is a superior moisturizer. A common treatment for dry skin and cradle cap, borage oil helps fight skin inflammation and dryness to promote skin health. (Learn more about borage oil here.)

Moringa Seed Oil

A nutrient dense carrier oil, moringa seed oil is another prize ingredient for my natural eczema treatment. Like borage oil, it has anti-inflammatory properties when used in skin care. While naturally occurring antioxidants help promote cellular turnover for healthy looking skin. Its incredible moisturizing properties help to hydrate maturing skin as well as ease the symptoms of eczema, dermatitis and psoriasis. (Discover more ways moringa seed oil is commonly used here.)

Murumuru Butter

Murumuru butter, similar to the carrier oils used in my natural eczema treatment, is also rich in essential fatty acids. It also contain pro-vitamin A. This makes this natural butter a popular product in anti-aging skin care formulations. In addition to its moisturizing properties, murumuru butter promotes moisture retention making it an especially useful addition when used for dry skin and eczema remedies. (Learn how to make a murumuru sugar scrub recipe for eczema and dry skin here.)

Manuka Essential oil

Manuka essential oil, like manuka honey, comes from the leaves of the popular New Zealand plant by the same name. This essential oil is non-toxic, non-irritating and non-sensitizing, making it suitable for all skin types. This also means it won’t irritate eczema prone skin. Like the other ingredients in my natural eczema relief balm recipe, this essential oil is also anti-inflammatory. It is commonly used to offer relief for itchy skin and dandruff, rashes and common skin diseases. (Learn more about manuka essential oil, and how to make a natural manuka deodorant recipe, here.)

Now that you know a little more about the natural ingredients that went into my natural eczema treatment, let’s get started making it!

I used a combination of 2 oz. glass amber jars and 1 oz. white polypropylene thick wall plastic jars.

Allow your natural eczema relief balm to cool completely. Once it has solidified, screw the caps onto your containers.

Usage:

To use your natural eczema treatment, simply massage onto affected area as desired. Allow the balm to sink in. (This may take a minute or two.) Then reapply as needed throughout the day.

Wet wrap therapy for moderate to severe eczema.

For really bad eczema, I also recommend using this natural eczema relief balm in conjunction with wet wrap therapy. Wet wrap therapy is another natural eczema treatment for moderate to severe eczema.

Eczema wet wrap therapy creates a physical moist barrier for your skin. When used in conjunction with an eczema relief balm or cream, it helps the moisturizer penetrate skin more deeply. This natural eczema treatment can significantly improve your skin’s condition in as few as two days. Learn more about wet wrap therapy for your eczema, along with instructions, here.

Enjoy all of the wonderful health and wellness benefits of essential oils by starting with this practical (and less expensive) best essential oil blend for colds and flu. Saving you money so you can breathe easy in more ways than one!

Best Essential Oil Blend for Colds and Flu. Essential oils have wonderful aromatherapeutic benefits for health and wellness uses throughout the winter season. However, essential oils can also be expensive to start using. You can enjoy all of the aromatherapy benefits of essential oils by starting with a practical (and less expensive) essential oil blend that targets colds and flu. Saving you money so you breathe easy in more ways than one! #essentialoils

Essential oils don’t have to be expensive.

If you love the idea of essential oils and their potential aromatherapeutic benefits, but aren’t sure where to start, read this! I know many of us have wanted to purchase essential oils in the past. Especially for practical uses throughout the winter season. However, essential oils can be expensive when buying several at one time. Or, you may not want to make a huge investment on essential oils that end up going to waste. You can easily solve this dilemma by purchasing a single essential oil blend. And, as it’s cold and flu season, I’m sharing with you the best essential oil blend for colds and flu to get you started!

I’m SO sick.

We’ve all had those days. Those days where you’re so sick it feels like it will never end. You’ve caught some virus that’s in the midst of throwing down seriously bad voodoo. You can’t breathe. And when you talk, your friends think you’re using a voice changing app to sound like Darth Vader.

The next thing you know you find yourself on Facebook out of sheer boredom. Moments away from pulling the “I’m dying over here” card for sympathy. But you don’t. Because even though you are way sicker than your significant other has ever been in his life, you know that to say that would mean sinking down to that man level cry for sympathy. And you’re a strong badass woman. (Most of the time.)

This is exactly how I’ve felt since Christmas. I’ve had a cough for days. One of those body wrenching coughs that leaves your back sore and your throat raw.

And I’ve been fighting this illness with cough medicine that’s somehow supposed to suppress my cough while also helping me expel mucous at the same time. (How does that work exactly?) Not to mention cough medicine makes me loopy AF. So when my friend and fellow blogger, Cari, suggested that I diffuse essential oils to help, I was blown away by how easy it is to miss the obvious when you’re completely out of it.

Diffusing essential oils for an illness – without a diffuser.

Somehow, however, I’ve managed to make it 43 years on earth without ever once owning an essential oil diffuser. Which, considering my occupation, seems dubious, I know. Of course, I’m not about to make shower steamers when standing is a challenge. So Cari suggested I add a few drops of essential oil to my shower. Now that I could swing. (I mean if all else fails, sitting in the shower is completely plausible.)

So I chose to go with eucalyptus and tea tree essential oils for my (very late) morning shower. I turned the shower head on, let the water get hot then added a few drops of tea tree oil to end of the tub. Next, I followed with some eucalyptus essential oil. Except, oops. I’d taken the dropper out of that bottle and didn’t check before the pour. Therefore, instead of a few drops of eucalyptus to open up my airways, I ended up with more like a teaspoon of eo swimming in the bottom of my tub.

Of course, like any other completely normal totally sick person, I figured it couldn’t hurt. I could barely smell it anyway.

So I showered and inhaled and rinsed and inhaled and at some point I started to actually breathe normally again.

Then Greg came home.

Now the apartment we live in is crazy small. It’s basically the size of a studio apartment but with actual rooms. So my shower basically turned into a giant essential oil diffuser for the entire pad. And when Greg walked through the door he literally took a step back.

Where my overkill of eucalyptus oil had helped to open up my sinuses, it had the opposite effect on him. Greg kept saying “he couldn’t breathe” over and over again. He then went out to the truck to wait for me.

Wait. What?!

Yep. We took a trip to BJ’s Wholesale so the apartment could air out.

So where Greg’s version of events is that I tried to suffocate him. My version is that I was simply disinfecting the entire apartment. Naturally, of course. In one easy step.

The Best Essential Oil Blend for Colds & Flu

There are a number of common essential oils you can diffuse for colds and flu. These include eucalyptus essential oil (obviously) ravintsara essential oil, peppermint essential oil, rosemary essential oil,  tea tree essential oil, clove bud essential oil and white fir essential oil. However, buying all of these essential oils at once, or even additional essential oils to create a pleasing essential oil blend for your diffuser, isn’t always cost effective for most people. Therefore, if you only dabble in aromatherapy from time to time, or if you are just starting out, sometimes the easiest and most affordable option is to start with a ready made essential oil blend.

The best essential oil blend for colds and flu is from Spark Naturals. Trusted for their quality and purity, Spark Naturals sells an amazing essential oil blend for colds and flu called Respire. Spark Naturals Respire essential oil blend offers protection against cold and flu germs during flu season as well as congestion in general.

Because so many of us are forced indoors during the winter months, we are more likely to become exposed to these germs by our close proximity with others who may be sick. Therefore, Spark Naturals formulated their proprietary best essential oil blend for colds and flu to offer some protection against common germs. Made using a combination of peppermint, tea tree, eucalyptus, rosemary, lemon and clove essential oils, their Respire essential oil blend also helps with both cold and flu symptoms in addition to common respiratory issues such as congestion.

How to use an essential oil blend for colds and flu.

You can use 5-10 drops of this essential oil blend for colds and flu in an essential oil diffuser in your home. Or try about 10 drops in a bowl of steaming water with a towel draped over your head. Alternately, you can also add around 10 drops of this essential oil to your shower to enjoy the benefits. (Just don’t make the same mistake I did!)

You can also make a simple essential oil salve for chest congestion using this blend. Simply weigh, combine and melt .5 oz. beeswax pastilles in a double boiler with 1 oz. of your preferred carrier oil. Once melted, remove from heat. Then mix in 15-18 drops of the Respire essential oil blend. Pour into metal tins and allow to cool prior to use. Or try Spark Naturals ready made Respire Stix multi-purpose balm.

Spark Naturals also offers a base salve that’s already premade for adding in your choice of essential oils. This is especially useful if you don’t have the space or funds to purchase extra ingredients in bulk. In addition, you can also purchase several pre-made essential oil salves containing the same high quality essential oils for a variety of other health ailments including anxiety and trouble sleeping. Their 8-pack salve sampler is a super affordable way to explore the health benefits of essential oils.

The end result.

Truth be told, I feel a LOT better today after flooding our apartment with tea tree and eucalyptus essential oils. And while Greg may not be quite as thrilled about how I handled my own sick care, he’s pleasantly surprised that my shower diffuser experiment eradicated the dog smell from my aging (super stinky) dachshund, Jasper, from the apartment.

Do you have a favorite recipe for an essential oil blend that you love using in your home? I’d love for you to share it with me and my readers in the comments! (It’s always so wonderful to be able to learn from one another, don’t you think?)

This post is sponsored by Paris Fragrances. All opinions are my own.

Are you curious about some of the products found within the Amazon Rainforest? Keep reading to discover the natural skin care benefits of bacuri butter, black clay and buriti oil. Sourced from the Brazilian Amazon Forest, learn how you can use these natural ingredients to create your own natural Amazon black salve recipe.

Crafted using bacuri butter, commonly used as by local natives as a natural remedy for snake and spider bites, this natural ingredient from the Brazilian Amazon Forest plays a key role in drawing out matter from insect bites, stings, boils and even acne.

If you really take the time to consider how much medicine has changed since our grandparents and great grandparents were children, you’ll see a huge shift. We’ve moved from treating illnesses with nutrition and natural remedies to synthetic drugs developed in labs. One only needs to listen to the grocery list of side effects on drug commercials to begin to question, are these treatments really better for us?

When I was a kid, black salve would remedy a boil. Iodine would heal a wound. We fought colds with fire cider and whiskey. In short, we worked with what nature gave us. While medical advances such as anesthesia have led to many improvements in patient care, it’s important to develop a healthy balance between the two.

Natural Skin Care Ingredients from The Brazilian Amazon Forest

Recently, Paris Fragrances has facilitated my discovery of many beneficial skin care ingredients from the Brazilian Amazon Forest. Sustainably harvested for the fruits and other plant materials that grow there, the Brazilian Amazon Forest’s rich biodiversity is home to a number of indigenous remedies and medicinal plants.

Home to products such as Brazilian nut oil, bacuri butter, tucuma butter and cocoa butter that are native to the Brazilian Amazon Forest, these ingredients make wonderful additions to natural skin care products and home remedies. Further, as the commercial sale of these ingredients produces more income for those who reside in the region than both non-sustainable timber and cattle pasture combined, their use supports keeping the Amazon Rainforest intact.

I love shopping for these specialty ingredients from Paris Fragrances. Not only are the prices and quality of their products amazing, but they carry natural ingredients I can’t find elsewhere. I’ve also really enjoyed learning about so many new ingredients. However, coming up with new ways to use these sustainable products in my natural skin care recipes has definitely been the most rewarding part.

About My Amazon Black Drawing Salve Recipe

My Amazon black salve recipe offers an exciting twist off the traditional Amish black drawing salves. It’s similar to an Amish black drawing salve in that it contains activated charcoal. However, it also contains three ingredients found specifically in Brazil. These ingredients are volcanic black clay, buriti oil and bacuri butter.

Bacuri butter, which has been historically used by Brazilian natives as a natural remedy for snake and spider bites, plays a key role in drawing out matter from skin. This makes it an effective remedy for insect bites, stings, boils and even acne. While buriti oil, which is bountiful in vitamin A, promotes skin health to hasten the healing process.

Brazilian volcanic mud black clay, like bacuri butter, also works at pulling or drawing out moisture from skin. Naturally rich in silica, magnesium, calcium and iron, this clay is especially effective against acne and other problematic skin conditions. The black clay available from Paris Fragrances originates from the slow and millenarian erosion of rocks. This results in a diversity of minerals that are part of its natural composition. The clay is then sustainably extracted in the region of Minas Gerais in the South of Brazil. This is where the largest deposit of kaolin clay can be found, caused as a result of the erosion and sedimentation of rocks in the Serra do Mar.

CBD Oil for Fibromyalgia.

Not all CBD oil is created equal. Trust me, I know. In my quest to find natural alternatives to pain relief for my fibromyalgia, I tried more than six different brands of CBD oil. While they all worked great at reducing anxiety and inflammation, finding one that tackled my worst pain was a challenge.

In part, this was because not all brands of CBD oil were geared specifically toward fighting pain. On the other side of that, fibromyalgia pain is tricky. This is because pinpointing the origin of fibromyalgia pain is challenging. Fibro pain moves throughout various points of the body. It’s not specifically in your joints. Or your muscles. It’s widespread and goes where it pleases.

What causes fibromyalgia?

It’s theorized that fibromyalgia, in layman’s terms, is caused by the brain misinterpreting signals from our body. So when we are particularly stressed, or in fear of a negative or painful outcome (whether physical or emotional,) our brains react to that stress or fear by sending out pain signals to various parts of our body. This is why, the majority (if not all) of the people who experience fibromyalgia pain, have experienced either a physical or emotional trauma at some point in their lives. The prior (or ongoing) abuse changes the way our brain handles stress and pain. (Source.)

This is also why, reducing stress and practicing meditation, can help fibromyalgia pain. And why, when we get upset, our pain increases. It’s also why the practices you learn through alternative treatments, such as the Curable app, can help reduce that pain. The methods primarily focus on retraining how your brain thinks and handles stress. It’s also why some fibromyalgia sufferers find relief with SSRI drugs. SSRI’s are able to reduce our stress and anxiety chemically. For others, however, an infection or an illness can also lead to the development of fibromyalgia.

Fibro is not well understood and many doctors are still uncertain about how to treat it. However, short and even long term use of synthetic opioid pain relievers, such as Tramadol, are both addictive and cause worsening severity of pain over time. I’ve found, personally, that pain killers absolutely do lead to increased sensitivity to pain. Therefore, when I stopped taking pain killers and instead focused on natural supplements that targeted inflammation, anxiety and healthy stress response, my pain actually decreased.

Full Spectrum Oil box and bottle - MCT oil

How does CBD oil benefit the body?

This is what led me to explore adaptogens. Like adaptogenic herbs such as ashwagandha, maca and holy basil, CBD oil is also an adaptogen. Or, basically, a non-specific remedy that increases our bodies resistance to a broad spectrum of harmful factors of different physical, chemical and biological natures.

CBD oil works because it interacts with our bodies through the endogenous cannabinoid system (ECS) or endocannabinoid system. Discovered in the 1980’s, the endocannabinoid system regulates the body’s general state of balance. It has a positive impact on mood, sleep, appetite and hormone regulation as well as our bodies pain and immune response. As such, the endocannabinoid system is an extremely important regulator within our bodies. However, few of us take steps to support this system as cannabinoids are not a part of our normal daily diet. (Learn more about the endocannabinoid system.)

In addition to its benefit as an herbal supplement, CBD oil also has numerous medical indications including anxiety, epilepsy, inflammation, cancer and chronic pain. And it’s not just for people either. All mammals, including dogs and cats, benefit in the same way we do. My 9 1/2 year old dachshund has been able to jump onto the couch again despite arthritis in his front knees since taking MediPets CBD Oil. They even offer CBD oil infused edible treats for both cats and dogs so even picky eaters can get the endocannabinoids they benefit from.

CBD Oil Salve Recipe for Natural Holistic Pain Relief. Learn how CBD oil can help with fibromyalgia and other types of chronic pain, including arthritis. Beneficial for both people and their pets alike, CBD oil is an important adaptogen that helps to regulate our bodies state of balance. Plus learn how you can use CBD oil to make your own CBD natural pain relief salve recipe for everyday aches and pains.

How much CBD oil do I need?

I’ve found that taking a daily CBD oil supplement at a lower dose works best for long term maintenance of my fibromyalgia. It helps with anxiety, stress and insomnia. However, when I have a pain flare up, that maintenance dosage isn’t enough to bring my pain level back down. Therefore, for flare ups, I have typically take between a 50 mg to 100 mg serving twice a day until the pain dissipates.

The packaging of your CBD oil should indicate on the back how many mg are in a serving. Most oils offer between 6 mg and 35 mg per serving. The amount of CBD oil per serving is also indicative of how much more you’ll pay for your CBD oil.

If you can’t find the amount of CBD oil per serving on your packaging, you can determine the amount yourself. For example, if a 30 ml bottle of CBD oil contains 700 mg of CBD oil, simply divide the total amount of CBD in mg by the number of ml of oil in the bottle. Therefore, 700mg divided 30ml equals 24 mg per 1 ml dose, or one dropper full. While CBD 1500 mg will have 50 mg of CBD per 1 ml serving.

How you will react to CBD oil varies. It is different for everyone. Factors such as age, sex, weight and diet all determine how CBD oil influences your body. As does the way in which CBD oil is administered. Women tend to experience more pain relief from CBD oil than men. And applying CBD oil under your tongue versus consuming it by way of an edible product changes the time frame in which your body processes and reacts to it. However, for most people, you’ll notice the full effects of your CBD oil dosage about 45 minutes to an hour after consumption.

LT Pain Master Premium Hemp Infused Liquid

I recently had the opportunity to try the Lawrence Taylor Pain Master CBD Oral Drops from Diamond CBD. I am really pleased at how much this product helps with my pain compared to other CBD oils. Not only does it tackle my fibro flare ups, I was also able to use less of this CBD oil than other brands and yet also experience better pain relief.

Additionally, unlike other CBD oils, the LT Pain Master Premium Hemp Infused Oil is naturally sweetened. This makes it easier to consume (for those of us who don’t find the taste of CBD oil particularly enjoyable.) Simply place the desired amount under your tongue. (Then chase it with a glass of water.) Alternately, it can also be added to a vaporizer.

The Diamond CBD family of brands also sells the Lawrence Taylor Pain Master CBD Cream for topical pain relief along with a wide selection of CBD edibles, dabs, drinks and vape oils. So you can purchase everything you want from one reliable and trusted supplier. I’m also pretty excited about the Meds Biotech CBD & Turmeric Capsule Bundles, which you can purchase at a discount here.

CBD Natural Pain Relief Salve Recipe

© Rebecca D. Dillon

Ingredients:

.25 oz. neem oil
.25 oz. andiroba oil (or arnica herbal oil)
.25 oz. Diamond CBD Full Spectrum MCT Oil (in strength of choice)
.25 oz. white cosmetic beeswax
12 drops rosemary essential oil

Instructions:

You will need a digital scale to weigh out the ingredients for this CBD natural pain relief salve recipe.

Weigh out and combine the beeswax, neem oil and andiroba oil in a small glass Pyrex measuring cup or similar. Slowly heat over low using the double boiler method.

Once all of the beeswax has melted, remove from heat. Then weigh out and stir in the CBD oil. Using a dropper or graduated plastic transfer pipette, add 12 drops of rosemary essential oil.

Mix again, then pour into two .5 oz. containers of your choice. I used two 1/2 oz. white polypropylene double wall radius jars for my CBD natural pain relief salve recipe. (You can find these containers at SKS Bottle & Packaging here.)

Once your CBD natural pain relief salve cools, screw the lids onto the jars and label as desired for personal use or gifting. (I used labels with a fake company name simply for demonstration purposes.)

To use, simply massage onto areas of pain as desired.

Whether you or your child struggles with ADHD, or you find you lack concentration and focus as you age, the inability to focus and on stay on task can be daunting. However, you don’t need to resort to prescription medications with unwanted side effects to rectify this problem. Instead, there are a number of ways to treat ADHD naturally so you can be more productive, in addition to cognition and focus.

How to Treat ADHD Naturally (Without Prescription Medications) Using Natural Herbs & Supplements

Back to school can be a challenge for parents. Especially if you have a special needs child. ADHD, however, is one of those disorders that affects not only children, but adults as well. Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD for short, affects an estimated 8.4 percent of children and 2.5% of adults. It interferes not only with our ability to focus. It also causes hyperactivity and impulsivity. Left untreated ADHD can affect our children’s performance in school as well as our own ability to focus on tasks at work.

As someone with fibromyalgia, I can readily relate with the inability to focus as a result of fibro fog. The times I’ve put off work because I couldn’t get my head into it are too numerous too count. And then, of course, when I finally do commit to a project, such as writing, I type a paragraph then get up and pace, on repeat, for hours on end.

It wasn’t until I started taking Gaia Herbs Mental Alertness that I was able to change my process. These days, with a little help from a natural herbal supplement, I can sit and write an entire blog post without ever leaving my chair. So I whole heartedly believe that, yes, there are effective ways to treat ADHD naturally. However, as with everything else in life, it may take some experimentation to find the right fit for you or your child’s ADHD.

Fortunately, we now know that there are natural alternatives for treating the symptoms of ADHD at the source, without resorting to pharmaceuticals with unwanted side effects. Where modern medicine has failed us, many of use have turned to alternative treatment options to take charge of our health and the health of our families. By being proactive, many of us have finally started on our journey to wellness through nutrition and herbal supplements rather than a prescription from a doctor.

How to Treat ADHD Naturally

Treat ADHD Naturally Through Exercise & Lifestyle Changes

Spending more time outdoors in nature is an easy way to help calm ADHD symptoms. Evidence suggests that spending just 20 minutes on outdoor activities per day can improve concentration. Additionally, participating in yoga or tai chi classes can also offer similar benefits with regular participation.

Treat ADHD Naturally Through Clean Eating

Another one of the ways to treat ADHD naturally is through nutrition. It’s been shown that a diet high in sugar and carbohydrates can exacerbate ADHD. Sugar, gluten and dairy all can trigger inflammation in the body which leads to lessened blood flow to the brain. By consuming lean protein and good-quality fats, your body can better stabilize blood sugar and support the pre-frontal cortex. This in turn often helps to reduce the impulsivity that accompanies ADHD.

Additionally, your should also avoid foods with excess sodium, MSG, HVP (hydrolyzed vegetable protein), yeast extract, caffeine and sugar. It’s also advised that you avoid artificial sweeteners with biochemical alterations as they can interfere with cognitive functions and emotions. In addition, whenever possible, foods with artificial coloring, preservatives and allergens should be removed from your diet as well.

Tips for Clean Eating

Following are easy guidelines for eating better. It’s simple for anyone to incorporate these clean eating tips into their daily diet to support better nutrition.

  • Eat more fruits and vegetables, choosing organic options when available.
  • Eat more whole grains. In other words, grains that look similar to their harvested state. This includes farro, barley, quinoa, wild rice and oats. Not only will these offer more fiber, you’ll also benefit from the extra protein, antioxidants and inflammation-fighting phytonutrients.
  • Consume less meat. Not only is eating less meat healthier for you, it’s also better for the environment. When you do eat meat, opt for natural meats (sans the antibiotics and growth hormones) such as grass fed beef or wild caught salmon. You should also reduce your intake of processed meats such as sausage, bacon and cold cuts, if not omitting them all together.
  • Avoid processed foods made with hydrogenated vegetable oils, artificial colors, refined grains and high amounts of sugar.
  • Limit your sugar intake. Not only does sugar cause harmful inflammation that can lead to illnesses such as Type 2 diabetes and heart disease, it’s filled with empty calories that leave you feeling hungry a short time later.
  • As with sugar, it’s also important to limit your salt intake. Many of us consume well above the recommended daily intake of salt. If using salt when cooking, use it sparingly. I personally like to substitute pink Himalayan salt for sea salt when I cook for the added vitamins and minerals.

Treat ADHD Naturally Through Natural Herbs & Supplements

There are a number nutrients that, when intake is increased either through the foods you eat or supplements, can help with ADHD symptoms. As deficiencies in vitamin B6, magnesium, vitamin C, zinc and iron can contribute to ADHD symptoms, supplements or a change in diet are recommended in order to increase levels of these nutrients in your body.

In addition to common vitamins and minerals, there are also alternative herbal supplements that can help you treat ADHD naturally.

CBG Oil (A Natural Hemp Oil)

CBG oil, a hemp derived compound similar to CBD oil, has shown positive results in treating both ADHD and autism. There are a now a number of scientific trials that testify to the positive effects of using CBG oil to minimize side effects of these conditions. A natural hemp oil, cannabigerol (CBG oil), differs from CBD oil in several key ways. Where CBD oil is great at treating seizures, CBG oil is not. Instead, CBG oil offers the following benefits that CBD oil doesn’t:

  • Assists with memory and focus.
  • Helps with bladder disfunction including overactive bladder.
  • Assists with relief of IBS symptoms along with other bowel and intestinal issues.
  • Helps ease cravings and withdrawal from benzodiazepines, opiates, alcohol and cigarettes.
  • Relieves symptoms of ADD/ADHD
  • Stimulates appetite.

CBG oil offers additional support over CBD oil for the following:

  • Offers relief from pain.
  • Helps with depression.
  • Acts as a neuroprotectant to support neural/brain health.

CBD oil and CBG oil both share these health benefits:

  • Aids in relief of symptoms from anxiety and panic disorders.
  • Is naturally anti-inflammatory and therefore reduces and inhibits inflammation.
  • Slows bacterial growth.
  • Is a reliable sleep-aid that can help with insomnia.

I have personally found CBG oil helpful in treating fibromyalgia. It’s more effective at targeting pain, in my experience, than CBD oil. Additionally it has helped immensely with symptoms of overactive bladder that often coincides with the fibro.

If you’d like to try CBG oil, I purchase mine from Flower Child. They also offer sample packs of CBG and CBD oil as well as sample packs of CBG oil and CBG salve. You can save $10 off your first $30 purchase with coupon code: ref0716498 when you shop at Flower Child through using this link. Other Natural Herbal Supplements

In addition to CBG oil, there are a number of herbal supplements that can help you treat ADHD naturally, as established through my experience with with Gaia Herbs Mental Alertness. (Which, incidentally, has also been shown to help with both ADD/ADHD symptoms.) In fact, many of the herbs considered to help with ADHD are found in Gaia Herbs Mental Alertness Herbal Supplement.

Following are the herbs recommended for naturally treating ADHD symptoms.

  • Gingko Bibola
  • Brahmi
  • Gotu Kola
  • Green Oats
  • Ginseng
  • Pine Bark (Pycnogenol)

Studies do suggest however, that these herbs work best when used in combination with one another.
