Ingredients:

.3 oz. (9 grams) refined and deodorized shea butter
4 drops essential oil(s) of choice

Instructions:

Using a digital kitchen scale weigh out the shea butter in a small glass beaker or glass Pyrex measuring cup. Heat in the microwave just until melted, then add four drops of essential oil, stir and pour into a 1/3 oz. (10 gram) container or lip balm pot. Allow to set up completely. (You can speed up this process by putting it in the refrigerator.)

Need essential oil suggestions? For my lip butter I used three drops of cinnamon leaf essential oil and 1 drop clove essential oil. But you can also try three drops of lavender essential oil and 1 drop peppermint essential oil or even two drops peppermint essential oil and two drops spearmint essential oil. Or go solo with four drops of wintergreen essential oil. You can also try something a little more exotic like cardamom and basil essential oils! Have fun with it and mix and match your favorite oils!

Want to give a your natural homemade lip butter a bit more lip loving pizazz? Try adding a few drops of carrot seed essential oil, prized for its skin rejuvenating properties, or even a few drops of certified GMO free vitamin E.

Homemade Coffee Flavored Lip Balm Recipe (Made with Real Coffee!)

This Homemade Coffee Flavored Lip Balm Recipe makes a great treat for any coffee lover's lips! Plus it's made with real coffee making it extra crush worthy.

I’ve been putting all kinds of new bath & beauty recipe ingredients on my wish list lately. Unfortunately making my way through the entire list takes a while. After trying 100% Pure Cosmetics’ Organic Coffee Bean Eye Cream made with Arabica Coffee Seed Oil and Green Arabica Coffee Seed Oil I ended up with two more new ingredients for my wish list. I really wanted to use a natural coffee oil in my own under eye cream recipe for puffy eyes. (That recipe is next so be sure to follow my blog so you don’t miss it!)

However, as I’m pretty crafty and I have whole bean coffee at home, I decided to make a coffee infused oil in the meantime. It turned out quite nicely for the recipes I had in mind including this one for a homemade coffee flavored lip balm recipe!

To make my coffee infused oil I coarsely ground 3 Tablespoons of whole coffee beans in a coffee grinder. I then combined the grounds with 4 oz. by weight of olive oil over low heat for about 15 minutes, then strained the oil. As I did not have any cheesecloth handy and I’m often an impatient crafter, I improvised by taping a coffee filter to the top of a cup then poured the coffee and oil into the filter. Once the majority of the oil dripped through – yeah, it mostly worked – I carefully removed the filter and then squeezed the rest of the oil out into the cup. A few grounds got through, but nothing major.

Ingredients:

1 oz. coffee infused olive oil (see above)
.5 oz. refined shea butter
.5 oz. refined/deodorized cocoa butter
.25 oz. white cosmetic grade beeswax
10 drops clove essential oil
1/2 ml Kahlua flavor oil
1/2 ml Chocolate Devil’s Food Cake flavor oil
pinch of sugar (optional)

Instructions:

To create this coffee flavored lip balm recipe you’ll begin by using a digital kitchen scale weigh out the beeswax and cocoa butter in a glass Pyrex measuring cup. Heat in the microwave at reduced power (or in a double boiler) until half melted, then weigh out the shea butter and add to the cocoa butter and beeswax and continue heating until full melted.

Using a pot holder or kitchen towel to remove the measuring cup – it will get hot! – add a pinch of sugar, if desired, and stir well. Then weigh out and add the coffee infused olive oil to the mixture and stir thoroughly to combine.

Finally, using a different 3ml Graduated Plastic Transfer Pipettes for each oil, add ten drops of the clove oil and a measured 1/2 ml each of the flavor oils. Mix well then slowly pour the lip balm mixture into your containers of choice. I used .25 oz. slider tins for this project. If you also use slider tins you can expect this recipe to fill about 9 – 10 tins depending on how full you fill them. Be aware however that if you overfill them the lid will scrape off excess lip balm when you close it.

Plus it's made with real coffee making it extra crush worthy.Once your coffee flavored lip balms have cooled completely and solidified you can put the lids back onto the tins and add your own fun labels. To make my labels I simply turned one of the lids upside down and traced around it onto full size blank white label sticker sheets, then drew inside of that line. In addition to using permanent markers for my labels, I also used some really cool new washi tapes from Cute Tape. (I used both the Corner Japanese Washi Masking Tape and the Pink Cherry Blossom Snowflake Washi Tape.)

I even sent a few of these out with some of my recent orders as a surprise gift for the holidays! Some glassine bags, washi tape and red & white Baker’s Twine and they were all wrapped up like little gifts!
