Fifty shades of Grey Inspired Homemade Soap Recipe

With the just released Fifty Shades of Grey movie trailer already making lots of fanfare in anticipation of the movie that’s scheduled to open on Valentine’s Day 2015, I thought this would be a perfect time to share a Fifty Shades of Grey inspired homemade soap recipe. Made using Wholesale Supplies Plus Fifty Shades fragrance oil, this homemade soap ends up with a wonderful unisex fragrance blend of tainted rose, wild geranium, bergamot and gold amber.

I used Australian Midnight Black Clay from New Directions Aromatics to create the shades of grey in this soap, although you could also use matte black oxide pigment powder. Layer shades of gray on part or all of this homemade soap to fit the look you’re after.

Fifty Shades Homemade Soap Recipe

Ingredients:

13.5 oz. pomace olive oil
6.6 oz. sustainable palm oil
13 oz. 76°F melt point coconut oil
2 oz. rice bran oil
1.5 oz. refined shea butter

5.1 oz. sodium hydroxide/lye
12 oz. distilled water

2 oz. Fifty Shades fragrance oil
Australian midnight black clay, to suit

Instructions:

This homemade soap recipe will fit into my DIY Wooden Loaf Soap Mold and  yield approximately 10 – 12 homemade soap bars depending on how thick they are cut. To make this homemade soap recipe follow my basic cold process soapmaking instructions.

Prepare and mix the lye-water using a digital scale to weigh out the ingredients. Set aside to cool.

Now weigh out the soapmaking oils and shea butter and heat on the stove over medium heat in a stainless steel pot until melted. Remove from heat and all to cool.

Once the lye-water and oils have cooled to around 95°-100°F you can mix the two together using a stick blender. At light trace add the fragrance oil and mix along with the black clay.

If you want to layer the entire bar of soap in shades of gray, start by adding a small amount of black clay to soap and mix well until desired color is achieved and soap has reached trace. Pour your first layer into the prepared soap mold. Now add more black clay to the soap in the pot for the next shade darker, mix and pour the second layer. Continue until all the soap has been poured.

Cover and insulate the soap loaf for 24 hours, then unmold and cut into bars.
