DIY Party Hat Hack! These mini pineapple party hats were transformed to dreamy unicorn colors with spray paint and glitter!

It’s my birthday! And as a fellow soaper and facebook friend so eloquently put it, it’s my double 21st birthday! Can’t complain about that. I have super awesome friends, I’m doing what I love for a living, I have a shiny new husband and all my needs are met. So this is indeed a wonderful birthday. (It also doesn’t hurt that I can get away looking quite a few years younger.)

So, I don’t normally have a birthday party for myself, but this year I am throwing a birthday party not only for myself, but also for my dear friend, Cathy, who’s birthday is just three short days after mine. We are both turning 42 and know each other from all the way back in junior high school. We’re having a few good friends over for pitcher margaritas and to paint paper mache unicorns. Because, why not?

DIY Party Hat Hack! These mini pineapple party hats were transformed to dreamy unicorn colors with spray paint and glitter!

Last night I took time out to hack these mini pineapple party hats into some super amazing unicorn inspired glitter glam party hats using some Krylon Short Cuts Spray Paint, this glitter set, and a clear acrylic sealer. Aren’t they fun?

I’ve also been playing around with some free printable unicorn stickers I found via Pinterest, painting the borders with ella + milla Elite Drippin’ Gold glitter nail polish. I’m debating grabbing some plastic Solo cups last minute and adding the stickers to those, but they could end up as cupcake toppers as well.

Dr. Harvey's Herbal Multi-Vitamin + Mineral Supplement for Dogs! This powdered whole food multi-vitamin is made in the USA with no synthetic ingredients of any kind. Simply add powder to your dog's food daily to encourage optimal health! My dog LOVES this stuff!

All of that awesome aside, I am also in the midst of a free trial to Thrive Market. Not only did I discover and fall in love with Vigilant Eats Goji Cacao Superfood Cereal, but I also gave Dr. Harvey’s Canine Multi-Vitamins a try for my dog, Jasper. I didn’t realize when I bought it that it’s actually a powder and not a soft chew like I was expecting. But surprisingly Jasper absolutely LOVES this stuff. And as he’s aging – he’ll be 9 in August – I’m more careful about his dietary and health needs.

And, both because Jasper simply loves this stuff and he’s starting to get arthritis in his front knees, I’m going to purchase Dr. Harvey’s Canine Ortho-Flex Vitamins the next time around.

If you’d like to try Thrive Market, you can sign up here.

They then come back and pick up the vessel. Cool, right? And there’s literally no more waste than if you were to go shopping at the grocery store.  (While I also love HelloFresh, recycling and/or throwing out the waste from packaging took up a lot of space in my bins. Plus there is the additional prep.)

In addition to the occasional YouTube video, I’m also watching the series Legion, which is based on the Marvel Comics, Amazon’s Fortitude and Hulu’s Harlots with great anticipation. I’m also very much looking forward to seeing The Handmaid’s Tale on Hulu.

I cooked this New York Strip Steak with Truffled Mashed Potatoes and Green Beans Amandine for James & I from my Hello Fresh subscription. (James usually cooks.) If you sign up for HelloFresh here as a new subscriber you’ll get $40 off your first delivery.

I also discovered a great new easy non-toxic no scrub shower cleaner. Simply combine ½ cup Dr. Bronner’s Sal Suds Biodegradable Cleaner with ½ cup vinegar in a spray bottle & gently mix. Spray on your surface, wait several minutes then rinse! Voila! You can also use a couple tablespoons of Sal Suds for an average load of laundry, dilute with water to sponge down countertops or to mop your floor, or even mix with baking soda to make a powerful scouring agent for bathtubs and sinks. (You can buy Sal Suds here.)

I also fell in love with these DIY Donut Bath Bombs via A Pumpkin & A Princess blog. They’re made with soap icing and real sprinkles. Additionally I also learned about the AirBrush app (available for both the iPhone and Android phones.) This amazing and easy to use app lets you take years off your appearance or simply adds makeup! This photo was retouched using the AirBrush app. I was wearing ZERO makeup in this selfie photo. All of the makeup was added using the app. You can get the app here.

The Spa Deck – Rediscovering a Treasure of Spa Recipes

The Spa Deck by by Barbara Close (Author) and Susie Cushner (Photographer) is a treasure filled collection of both simple and all natural spa recipes that you can make at home.

The Spa Deck

I moved at the beginning of the year. However, I still had a lease on my old apartment until the end of February so not everything made it’s way over until recently. (We saved the furniture for last.) Anyhow, I rediscovered this deck of spa recipe cards with 50 spa recipes during the move.

Homemade Spa Recipes

Lavender + Tea Tree Blemish Remover Recipe via The Spa Deck

Some of my favorite spa recipes that stood out while shuffling back through the cards included this super useful recipe for making a lavender & tea tree blemish remover. This simple oil acne treatment uses a blend of antibacterial essential oils proven to help fight acne including tea tree, lemon, lavender and rosemary essential oils.

Natural Neroli Complexion Serum Recipe via The Spa Deck

Another favorite, especially for those with dry and/or aging skin, is this recipe for a neroli complexion serum. Neroli essential oil is commonly used to increase circulation and stimulates new cell growth and is suitable for all skin types.

Especially beneficial for dry, irritated or sensitive skin, neroli essential oil regulates oiliness and minimizes enlarged pores. It can also help to clear up acne especially in dry skin. While pricy, a little bit of this amazing essential oil goes a long way!

Homemade Calendula Cuticle Oil Recipe via The Spa Deck

And let’s not forget those cuticles! My cuticles are the worst! And because I have a bad habit of biting my nails when I’m especially stressed, my cuticles tend to rip and tear. This calendula cuticle oil recipe is made with calendula essential oil, but you can also purchase certified organic calendula oil that’s made from infusing organically grown calendula flowers in organic cold pressed olive oil.

The Spa Deck contains 50 spa recipes in all with everything from face masks to papaya body butter. So if you can get your hands on a used deck, I highly recommend it!

Argan Cleansing Facial Oil – A Simple Way to Simplify Your Skincare Routine + Fight Aging

Disclosure: Blog posts may contain affiliate links for which I receive a small commission when you make a purchase. Full disclosure can be found here.

A simple cleansing facial oil for maturing skin.

I’ve found that as I’ve aged, choosing the right products for my skin can be challenging. Not only has my skin changed but it’s also aging. And believe me, no one wants to age. Thinning skin and wrinkles are two of my prime concerns. And as someone with sensitive skin I can’t always use products I might be interested in. So choosing natural skin care options is a priority for me. As such, one of the simplest ways I’ve found to remove makeup (when soap and water are too harsh or just won’t do the trick) is oil.

Argan Cleansing Facial Oil – A Simple Way to Simplify Your Skincare Routine + Fight Aging

Not only will oil conquer waterproof mascara and eyeliner in addition to the other cosmetics you use on your face, but it also won’t strip your skin of the natural oils that help to keep your skin balanced. Stripped skin, of course, can lead to the overproduction of oil as your skin tries to compensate for the oils it’s lost – and in some cases this can lead to acne breakouts. And, if you’re like me, you realize that in your 30’s and 40’s (I turn 42 this June!) that acne absolutely follows you into adulthood.

Therefore one of my favorite makeup removers is also one of the simplest. Because I have aging skin (which is at points more mature than I am at heart!) I like to use argan oil. Argan oil has natural anti-aging properties that help to restore skin’s elasticity, soften wrinkles and fine lines, and restores nutrient content to skin cells. Argan oil also naturally nourishes and moisturizes skin. And, because argan oil is non-comedogenic, it won’t clog pores!

How to make your own argan cleansing facial oil.

Learn how to make your own simple argan cleansing facial oil with anti-aging properties! Made with just two ingredients this cleansing facial oil helps to fight aging naturally, effectively cleans skin and removes makeup, and works as a face serum or moisturizer!

That being said, my rosemary and argan cleansing facial oil recipe is the perfect way to simplify one part of your daily skincare routine. My easy rosemary and argan cleansing facial oil recipe requires just two ingredients – argan oil and rosemary essential oil. For super sensitive skin you can omit the rosemary essential oil all together and just use argan oil. Simply combine 1 oz. of argan oil with 12 drops of rosemary essential oil in an amber glass bottle and shake to mix. (Find the original recipe for my rosemary and argan cleansing facial oil here. Or repin it here for later.)

If you have acne prone skin, you can add a blend of natural acne fighting essential oils to argan oil instead. Simply combine 4 drops of tea tree essential oil, 6 drops rosemary essential oil, 3 drops lavender essential oil and 2 drops of lemon essential oil to 1 oz. of organic argan oil in an amber glass bottle and shake to mix.

To use apply a small amount to clean fingertips and massage onto face and closed eyelids. Use a dry or barely damp washcloth to gently wipe away dirt, oil and makeup leaving only clean, soft skin behind.

If you have tough to tackle skin issues elsewhere, you can also apply several drops of your argan cleansing facial oil to clean skin and massage into the problem areas as you would a facial moisturizer or serum. Then simply remove any remaining residue from your hands by rubbing them onto the ends of your hair or smoothing onto your hair from scalp to end for extra shine.

Once you’ve cleaned your face, follow with toner (if desired) and a natural anti-aging moisturizer.

Retinol Surge Moisturizer - Retinol Cream 2.5% - 3.4 fl oz w Best Natural Ingredients Hyaluronic Acid Serum + Green Tea + Vitamins for Anti-Aging & Anti-Wrinkle & Even Skin Tone & Acne Care

If you’re looking for a great natural anti-aging moisturizer that won’t break the bank, try Body Merry’s Retinol Surge Moisturizer. It’s made with natural and organic ingredients such as Plant Derived Hyaluronic Acid to comfort and hydrate your skin while ingredients like Wildcrafted Green Tea, Organic Jojoba Oil, Vitamin E, Vitamin B5 and Shea Butter join forces to reveal a brighter and younger looking you. This is the exact same face moisturizer that I’ve been using for the post six months and I love it!
