Made with anti-inflammatory coffee essential oil and antioxidant rich darjeeling tea, this coffee & black tea under eye cream recipe helps to blur the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while also lending its nourishing antioxidant skin care properties.

To create my coffee & black tea under eye cream, I first infused Darjeeling Sungma Summer Tea in camellia (tea seed) oil. This tea, which I acquired from Adagio Teas, is a wonderfully delicious second flush black tea.

Darjeeling tea is often called the “champagne of teas.” And like black, white and green teas, Darjeeling tea has been shown to fight cancer, cavities and obesity. However, Darjeeling tea is special in that it may have the additional benefit of protection against stomach ulcers. (Source.)

And of course tea is rich in antioxidants that are great not just for the inside of your body, but they’re also wonderful for the outside of your body. Because of this, tea extract is a common ingredient in many topical skin care products and anti-aging skin creams.

So, if you’re going to buy tea for my coffee & black tea under eye cream recipe, consider purchasing a Darjeeling tea which is a treat by the cup as well as on your skin!

In addition to black tea, this recipe also contains coffee essential oil. Coffee, which has anti-inflammatory properties, has been shown to help reduce under eye puffiness as well as help to relieve dark under eye circles (not caused by hereditary factors.)

In addition, research has shown that applying coffee to skin can offer a layer of protection from harmful UV rays. Coffee’s diuretic properties can also help to relieve redness and irritation from sun damage, especially for those who suffer from Rosaceae. It’s also believed to tighten and brighten skin. Ingredients:

3 oz. refined shea butter
.35 oz. Darjeeling black tea infused camellia (tea seed) oil
.15 oz. babassu oil
.45 oz. emulsifying wax
.1 oz. Dimethicone
.1 oz. isopropyl myristate
.1 oz. coffee essential oil
few drops vitamin E oil, optional

Instructions:

You’ll begin by infusing your Darjeeling tea in camellia (tea seed) oil. (Learn more about camellia seed oil here.)

How to make tea infused oil for a natural coffee & black tea under eye cream!

To do this, begin by filling a small mason jar about halfway with tea. Then pour camellia (tea seed) oil into the mason jar until it reaches about a quarter to a half inch above the tea. Gently heat the mason jar over low heat using the double boiler method for 1-5 hours. Alternately, if you aren’t in a rush, you can use the solar infusion method. (Learn more about infusing herbs in oil at the Mountain Rose Herbs blog here.)

How to make tea infused oil for a natural coffee & black tea under eye cream!

Once you’ve infused the camellia oil with tea, strain the oil from the tea using cheesecloth.

Using a digital scale, weigh out the emulsifying wax and shea butter. Heat in a glass Pyrex measuring cup in the microwave at 50% power or in a double boiler until melted.

Remove from heat. Weigh out the babassu oil and stir into the melted wax and shea butter mixture until it melts. (Learn more about babassu oil here.)

Now weigh out black tea infused camellia oil and add to the melted ingredients. Stir to combine.

Weigh out all of the remaining ingredients and stir into the coffee & black tea under eye cream mixture.

Add several drops of vitamin E oil if desired and mix in.

Made with anti-inflammatory coffee essential oil and antioxidant rich darjeeling tea, this coffee & black tea under eye cream recipe helps to blur the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while also lending its nourishing antioxidant skin care properties.

Now pour the liquid coffee & black tea under eye cream mixture evenly into two 2.3 oz. clear glass thick wall cosmetic jars with black lined caps. (I got my jars from SKS Bottle & Packaging here.)

Allow to cool completely, then screw on the lids. You can place your coffee & black tea under eye cream in the fridge to speed up the cooling process. As this recipe yields a soft non-greasy balm that melts on skin contact, it may take 24-48 hours to fully solidify and reach its final consistency.

Label your jars as desired for gifting or personal use.

To use simply apply a small amount of the coffee & black tea under eye cream under your eyes onto clean skin and massage in. Use daily under makeup to help energize under eye skin and reduce puffiness and dark circles as well as to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. This product is also wonderful on dry hands and feet!

If you plan to sell your coffee & black tea under eye cream, you’ll need to follow FDA guidelines for labeling your product. If you’re unsure about the rules and regulations regarding labeling cosmetics, I highly recommend the book, Soap and Cosmetic Labeling: How to Follow the Rules and Regs Explained in Plain English, by Marie Gale.

My DIY anti-aging under eye cream with hyaluronic acid will leave your skin feeling soft and nourished while reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

My DIY anti-aging under eye cream with hyaluronic acid hydrates skin, improves elasticity and helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Like one of my previous skin care recipes for my palmarosa lime body balm, my DIY anti-aging under eye cream is also formulated with oat butter. Oat Butter is a soothing blend of rich, silky oat oil and hydrogenated vegetable oil that yields a dense viscosity and smooth texture. It’s well suited for dry, flaky skin as well as those with skin sensitivities.

I left my DIY anti-aging under eye cream recipe unscented so as not to add any additional ingredients that may be a source of allergies for those with sensitive skin. The final product will leave your skin feeling so soft and smooth that’s it’s sure to become a favorite!

Ingredients:

3 oz. oat butter
.1 oz. macerated carrot carrier oil
.1 oz. cucumber seed carrier oil
.2 oz. rosehip seed oil
.3 oz. emulsifying wax
.1 oz. isopropyl myristate
.05 oz. xanthan gum
.05 oz. dimethicone
1/4 teaspoon pure hyaluronic acid serum powder

Instructions:

You will need a digital scale to weigh out all of the ingredients except for the hyaluronic acid powder. For that you will need a quarter teaspoon measuring spoon. I recommend this Baker’s Math Scale if you plan to make a lot of bath, body or soap recipes.

Begin by weighing out the emulsifying wax into a glass pyrex measuring cup. Heat until melted either in the microwave at 50% power or in a double boiler.

Weigh out and add the oat butter to the melted wax.

Reheat until the oat butter has melted.

Next, weigh out the xanthan gum and stir into the melted butter and wax mixture until it has dissolved.

Now weigh out the remaining carrier oils – macerated carrot, cucumber seed and rosehip seed oil – and stir into the previously heated ingredients. Mix well.

Allow the mixture to cool slightly then weigh the dimethicone and the isopropyl myristate and stir in. Follow with a measured quarter teaspoon of the pure hyaluronic acid serum powder. Mix well. Then place the DIY anti-aging under eye cream in the refrigerator to cool.

Once the liquid anti-aging under eye cream just starts to turn cloudy and opaque, remove it from the refrigerator.

Then, using a whisk attachment on your stick blender, whisk the cream on low until it thickens.

Now use a small spatula to “spoon” your DIY anti-aging under eye cream into two 2 oz. straight sided amber glass jars with black phenolic lined caps. I got mine from SKS Bottle & Packaging here.

Finally, simply screw on your lids and label as desired for personal use or gifting!

To use apply to clean skin under your eyes daily at night or during the day under makeup!

So what causes under eye bags?

As you age you’re more likely to experience bags under your eyes. Because the tissue structures and muscles supporting your eyelids weakens, this skin may start to sag. As a result fat that is normally contained around your eye may drop into the area below your eyes. In addition, this area may also retain fluid causing your eyes to look puffy or swollen. Typical causes of this include fluid retention due to hormone levels, salty foods or changes in the weather, lack of sleep, allergies or dermatitis. Heredity can also play a factor.

How to I resolve my puffy eyes?

It’s not always easy to know exactly what is causing your under eye puffiness, so starting by taking care of yourself is key. Curb your salt intake and manage those seasonal allergies with medication. You can also try using a neti pot, sleeping on your back, drink alcohol in moderation – and keep hydrated when you do drink! – use sunscreen, remove eye makeup before bed to prevent possible irritation, and don’t smoke. Cooling down your eye area also helps to relieve eye puffiness, and so this is where my DIY anti-puff eye roller comes in!

Made with aloe vera juice and caffeine extract, this DIY anti-puff eye roller also contains peppermint essential oil to for an instant cooling sensation. While this product won’t perform miracles in which your puffy eyes vanish forever, depending on the cause, it’s possible it can noticeably reduce your under eye bags when preventable causes are removed from the equation.

Ingredients:

6 mL aloe vera juice
3 mL water soluble caffeine extract
1 drop peppermint essential oil

Instructions:

Using two graduated plastic transfer pipettes – one for each ingredient – or reusable glass graduated transfer pipettes, measure out the aloe vera juice and water soluble caffeine extract. Combine in a 10 mL roller bottle. Add one drop of the peppermint essential oil using a dropper or a fresh pipette. (You don’t want to use any more than one drop of peppermint essential oil as it’s pretty potent and you’re working with a delicate area of the skin!) Now pop on the roller bottle top and screw on the lid. Shake well to combine. That’s it!

To use simply apply the anti-puff eye roller under each of your eyes as needed.

Keep your DIY anti-puff eye roller in the refrigerator between uses. The cold not only helps to cool and calm puffy faster, but it also keeps the aloe vera juice from going bad. You can store the aloe vera juice, once opened, in the refrigerator for up to two months.

Then print the labels on a clear full sheet label sheet suited for your printer type (inkjet or laser.) (I got my labels in bulk from WorldLabel.) Also a huge thank you to my dear friend, Bambi, who not only help me to create this project – along with several others this past week! – but also so eloquently modeled my DIY anti-puff eye roller for me! (In exchange she got to keep some of what we made AND we got to share a bottle of wine together!) In addition to helping me to keep my creative drive up and going to hear all of the best bands in Roanoke with me, Bambi also makes and sells her own beaded jewelry in her Etsy shop, Happy Tree Frog Studios.

This healing neem butter recipe is wonderful for helping to heal minor wounds and abrasions as well as to help minimize scarring.

Bambi is also a recent breast cancer survivor. Having beaten the cancer through surgery and radiation treatments, she is now on a daily course of Tamoxifen for the next five years. And I’m thrilled to still have her around for the rest of forever. She’s also the super awesome friend that I created my natural burn relief spray and healing neem butter recipes for. (And lucky her, because she said they both worked fabulously for their intended uses!) So, here’s my gentle SHOUT reminder to please, please, please get your yearly mammograms by age 40 or even sooner! – age 35 – if you have a history of breast cancer in your family. They caught Bambi’s cancer very early on when she went in for her first mammogram at 40 with zero suspicions by her GYN that anything was wrong when she called and scheduled the mammogram for her during her yearly visit.

DIY Coffee Under Eye Cream for Puffy Eyes, Dark Circles & Fine Lines

DIY Beauty Recipe for a Natural DIY Coffee Bean Under Eye Cream Recipe that helps to combat under eye puffiness, dark circles and fine lines and wrinkles!

Suffering from puffy eyes, dark circles or even fine lines? This DIY coffee under eye cream may be able to help!

In my last post I mentioned that I had recently purchased and tried 100% Pure Cosmetics’ Organic Coffee Bean Eye Cream made with Arabica Coffee Seed Oil and Green Arabica Coffee Seed Oil and as a result concocted my own coffee bean infused oil for creating my own version of a caffeinated DIY coffee under eye cream that would help with those morning dark under eye circles, puffiness and even fine lines.

I strayed from the ingredients in 100% Pure Cosmetics product a bit but I was rather pleased with the results of my own DIY coffee under eye cream which creates a smooth, rich cream that smells like delectable coffee. I used natural ingredients known for their anti-inflammatory properties like shea butter, olive oil and lavender & chamomile essential oils, as well as jojoba and naturally anti-aging rosehip seed oil which have skin rejuvenating properties with evidence that they reduce fine lines and wrinkles. The end product is smooth and creamy and literally melts right into skin. A little goes a long way.

You can either make this recipe for one large container or pour the cream into smaller sized lip balm pots for gifting and sharing. If you like my DIY coffee under eye cream, you can also use the coffee infused oil you make for this recipe to create my other recipe for Handmade Coffee Lip Butter.

Don’t want to make your own? You can buy artisan crafted coffee under eye cream as well as coffee under eye serums here.

This Natural DIY Coffee Under Eye Cream Recipe is made using homemade coffee infused oil which can help with puffiness, fine lines and dark circles!

DIY Coffee Under Eye Cream Recipe

© Rebecca’s Soap Delicatessen

Ingredients:

1/2 oz. coffee infused oil (see below)
.25 oz. jojoba oil
.25 oz. rosehip seed oil
.75 oz. shea butter
.75 oz. cocoa butter
1/2 ml lavender essential oil
1/2 ml chamomile essential oil (1/2 ml if 3% dilution in jojoba or 4-5 drops if pure eo)
5 drops vitamin E oil

To Make Coffee Infused Oil:

Coarsely ground 3 Tablespoons of whole (unflavored) coffee beans in a coffee grinder. Combined the grounds with 4 oz. by weight of olive oil over low heat for about 15 minutes, then strain the oil using either cheesecloth or a coffee filter in a pinch. As I didn’t have cheesecloth handy, I improvised by taping a coffee filter to the top of a cup then poured the coffee and oil into the filter. Once the majority of the oil dripped through I carefully removed the filter and then squeezed the rest of the oil out into the cup.

Instructions:

Using a digital scale weigh out the shea and cocoa butter into a glass Pyrex measuring cup. Heat in the microwave until melted, then weigh out the coffee infused oil, rosehip seed oil and the jojoba oil and stir into the melted butters.

Next, using a different 3ml Graduated Plastic Transfer Pipette for each essential oil, measure out and add the chamomile and lavender essential oils and mix into the other ingredients. Finally, add several drops of vitamin E if desired and pour into your container(s) of choice.

How to Make Homemade DIY Coffee Under Eye Cream for Dark Circles, Puffiness and Fine Lines

This DIY coffee under eye cream recipe yields approximately seven 10ml or 1/3 oz. lip balm pots or will fit into a 2 oz. container or jar.

Notes from the crafting kitchen: Keep in mind that my DIY coffee under eye cream take some time to thicken. I’ve had products like this take a day or two to thicken at room temps and up to several hours to thicken fully in the fridge.

Also, as I did go back and experiment with various coffee options, note that using pre-ground coffee beans vs. coffee beans you grind fresh as well as the intensity of the roast – light, medium or dark – will determine the final color of your oil. Pre-ground and darker roasts make a much darker oil than grinding the beans yourself and choosing a light roast. Also, straining with a coffee filter over all other methods produces a much lighter oil with fewer coffee grains sneaking through.

Also keep in mind that ingredients from different suppliers will yield slightly varying results. I do not recommend using oils from the grocery store, but rather oils meant specifically for cosmetics and soapmaking for the best results and a longer shelf life.
