Instructions:

To make these DIY bundt cake salt scrub wedding favors, begin by using a digital scale to weigh out the kokum butter and shea butter. Combine in a large glass Pyrex measuring cup, then heat in the microwave at 30% power until melted. Alternately you can also use a double boiler.

Remove from heat, then weigh out and stir in the jojoba oil.

Next, using a graduated transfer pipette, measure out the polysorbate 80 as well as the fragrance oil and stir into the wet ingredients.

In a separate container, weigh out the Epsom salt. Now use a measuring spoon to measure out the mica powder and the turquoise glitter and mix into the salt until thoroughly combined.

Pour the colored salt into the wet ingredients and mix well with a fork until both salt and color are even throughout the wet salt scrub base.

Place the container filled with your salt scrub either in the refrigerator or freezer just until it starts to thicken up and the salt stays suspended when remixed.

Mix the salt scrub again, then fill the cavities a mini bundt cake pan of your choice with a cavity diameter of between 1.5″ and 1.75″. (The mini bundt pan mold I used had cavities with a diameter of 1.75″ each. This recipe made eight solid bundt cake salt scrubs.)

Allow the salt scrubs to fully harden then remove from the mold. Then place them on a small plate or cutting board and put them in the freezer.

Now cut an ounce or two of white melt and pour base into chunks and combine in a small scientific glass beaker. Heat in 10-15 second increments in the microwave until melted, then set aside to cool slightly.

When the soap base has thickened slightly but is still pourable, remove the solid bundt cake salt scrubs from the freezer. Mix a small amount of silver glitter into the base, then pour the soap base across the tops of the salt scrubs in several directions so it looks like icing. (If the soap sinks into the salt scrubs, stop, refreeze the scrubs and let the soap cool off further.)

If desired, you can also dust the tops of the solid salt scrubs with additional glitter to suit.

Carefully run a knife under your salt scrubs to remove them from the cutting board.

Then package your solid bundt cake salt scrub wedding favors by placing each one in a mini acrylic cake stand with a lid. (You can purchase mini cake stands along with other packaging materials for your wedding favors from beaucoop.) If desired tie a ribbon and tag around the top of the lid.

To use, simply massage onto damp skin in the shower or bath, then rinse and pat dry.

I used ActuallyOrganic 100% Pure Moroccan Argan Oil to create these luxe bridesmaid favors. This cold pressed argan oil is USDA certified organic and works wonderfully for all of your natural skin care recipes. It’s also great for helping to smooth dry frizzy hair or as a body oil for dry winter skin.

Personally I also love it with a few drops of coffee essential oil mixed in under my eyes to help reduce the appearance under eye puffiness and dark circles! (Also probably great for bridesmaids after that late night bachelorette party!)

Ready to make these amazing solid sugar scrubs? Here’s how!

Strawberries & Champagne Solid Sugar Scrub Recipe

© Rebecca’s Soap Delicatessen

Ingredients:

1.25 oz. detergent free baby buttermilk soap base
2 oz. refined shea butter
.3 oz. ActuallyOrganic Argan Oil
.3 oz. moringa oil
.25 oz. strawberries and champagne fragrance oil
8 oz. white granulated sugar
red liquid soap colorant, to suit

 Instructions:

You will need two silicone flower chocolate molds (with 15 cavities each) or similar to make these bridesmaid favors. In addition you’ll also need a digital scale to weigh out the ingredients.

This recipe will yield 30 .4 oz. solid sugar scrub cubes and make six jars of bridesmaid favors (assuming you fill each jar with five solid sugar scrub cubes.)

Begin by weighing out the shea butter and soap base. Combine in a double boiler and gently heat until melted.

If you do not have a double boiler, you can use a microwave. You’ll need to heat the shea butter first at 40-50% power until mostly melted then melt the soap base with the shea butter the rest of the way. You do not want to overheat your ingredients so stopping and melting the ingredients as you go is also helpful.

Once melted remove from heat.

Now weigh out the argan and moringa oils along with the fragrance oil and stir into the melted butters and soap base.

Next you’ll want to weigh out the sugar into a large Pyrex measuring cup.

Pour the sugar into the liquid mixture of oils, shea butter, soap and fragrance mixing as you go. Once thoroughly combined use a spatula to spoon the mixture into one mold filling all fifteen cavities. Flatten with the spatula.

With the remaining solid sugar scrub mixture, add 2-4 drops of red liquid soap color until desired color is achieved.

Spoon the pink solid sugar scrub mixture into your second mold so you fill all fifteen cavities with the colored scrub. Flatten with the spatula.(Hint. Place your mold on a cutting board for easy transfer to another location later.)

If desired, transfer your solid sugar scrub cubes to the fridge until they are fully solidified.

Once your solid sugar scrub cubes have set up, carefully remove them from each of the molds’ cavities.

Fill six 4 oz. Clear Glass Paragon Jars with Silver Caps with five solid sugar scrub cubes in alternating colors. I got my glass jars from SKS Bottle & Packaging here. (These also make excellent spice jars!) Then simply tie ribbons around the neck of the jars and you’re done!

DIY Gemstone Candles

Learn how to make these fun DIY gemstone candles to decorate your space or as homemade gift ideas!

Looking for a fun craft project to start your new year? Then try your hand at these DIY gemstone candles! These DIY gemstone candles are a fun way to decorate your space or make them as homemade gifts throughout the year for nearly any occasion. They’re great for weddings too!

DIY Gemstone Candles

© Rebecca’s Soap Delicatessen

What you’ll need:

beeswax
soy wax
micas or candle dye in colors of choice
medium wooden wick
shallow heat proof ceramic or glass bowl (at least 5.65″-6″ in diameter)
diamond silicone mold
digital scale
large Pyrex measuring cup and microwave (or a double boiler)
fragrance oil of choice

What you’ll do:

Begin by making your gemstones to use as decoration around the outside of the candle. To make these, use a digital scale to weigh out 3.75 oz. of beeswax to fill all six of the diamond shaped mold cavities. (If you don’t want yellow gemstones, use white cosmetic beeswax.) Combine in a large glass Pyrex measuring cup and heat at 50% power in the microwave until the beeswax has melted. (Alternately you can use a double boiler.)

These DIY gemstone candles are a fun way to decorate your space or make them as homemade gifts throughout the year for nearly any occasion.

Once melted, mix in mica powder of your choice until you reach the desired color. Now pour the melted and colored beeswax into the mold. Allow the beeswax to harden completely, then carefully remove the beeswax diamonds from the mold cavities.

Now prepare the soy wax for the bowl. The amount of wax and fragrance oil used for your candle will vary based on the size of the bowl you choose.

Fill the bowl with soy wax flakes by scooping them into the bowl until it’s full. Weigh out the amount of soy wax in the bowl. You can do this by placing a large Pyrex measuring cup onto your digital scale and pressing tare. Once the weight equals zero, add the soy wax to the Pyrex measuring cup on the scale. Record the weight of the soy wax you have.

Now melt your soy wax either in the microwave or in a double boiler. Once it has melted, remove from heat.

Place your wooden wick in the center of your bowl while you are waiting for the soy wax to cool down. Simply place the wick into the metal base, dip into the melted wax, then place in the center of the bowl.

Once your wax starts to cloud, it’s ready to pour. If you are using a fragrance oil, weigh out the fragrance oil at 10% of the amount of soy wax you previously recorded. So if you have 5 oz. of melted soy wax, you’ll weigh out and stir .5 oz. of fragrance oil into the wax.

These DIY gemstone candles are a fun way to decorate your space or make them as homemade gifts throughout the year for nearly any occasion.

Now pour the scented soy wax into the bowl around your wooden wick. Allow the soy wax to solidify completely.

These DIY gemstone candles are a fun way to decorate your space or make them as homemade gifts throughout the year for nearly any occasion.

Now place your gemstones around the outer edge of your bowl of solidified soy wax. You’ll want to leave a wide circle around the wick where the soy wax will pool once lit so that it doesn’t melt your gemstones as it burns.

These DIY gemstone candles are a fun way to decorate your space or make them as homemade gifts throughout the year for nearly any occasion.

Now weigh out about 1/3 to 1/2 of the amount of soy wax you recorded earlier. Melt the wax, allow to cool, then add your fragrance oil at 10% of the new amount of soy wax. Now pour the soy wax around into the bowl around the wick and gems.

These DIY gemstone candles are a fun way to decorate your space or make them as homemade gifts throughout the year for nearly any occasion.

Allow the wax to cool and harden completely.

Wait 24 hours before lighting your candle. Then cut the wick to 1/4″ and light.

Be sure to follow all safety precautions entailed with burning your candle and keep it away from flammable objects. Also be sure to blow your candle out if you leave and never leave your candle burning unattended.

Budget Mango & Coconut Milk Homemade Soap Recipe

© Rebecca’s Soap Delicatessen

Ingredients:

21.6 oz. sustainable palm oil
3.6 oz. palm kernel flakes
7.2 oz. 76° melt point refined coconut oil
7.2 oz. rice bran oil

8.8 fluid oz. distilled water
5 oz. lye/sodium hydroxide

3 oz. pureed ripe mango
1/2 Cup coconut milk powder
2-2.25 oz. fragrance oil, optional

Soap Notes:

The water as percent of the oil weight is 33% with the water then discounted by the amount of mango used in this homemade soap recipe.

The mango accounts for approximately 8.3% of the total oil weight.

This mango & coconut milk soap recipe was calculated using 6% superfat.

You can use a fragrance for this cold process soap recipe. If desired use up to 2.25 oz. of your favorite body safe fragrance oil; half for essential oils. Although as your guests may have allergies you aren’t aware of you may want to leave this unscented.

This mango & coconut milk cold process soap recipe will yield 10-12 bars of soap approximately 4 oz. each depending on how they are cut and fits inside my DIY wooden loaf soap mold.

Skip over the next homemade soap recipe to the bottom for instructions.

Luxury Mango & Coconut Milk Homemade Soap Recipe

Ingredients:

5 oz. 76° melt point refined coconut oil
4 oz. palm kernel flakes
6 oz. safflower oil
6 oz. rice bran oil
6 oz. sustainable palm oil
5 oz. pomace olive oil
3 oz. cocoa butter
1 oz. castor oil

8.5 fluid oz. distilled water
4.9 oz. lye/sodium hydroxide

3 oz. pureed ripe mango
1/2 Cup coconut milk powder
2-2.25oz. fragrance oil, optional

Soap Notes:

The water as percent of the oil weight is 32% with the water then discounted by the amount of mango used in this homemade soap recipe.

The mango accounts for approximately 8.3% of the total oil weight.

This mango & coconut milk soap recipe was calculated using 7% superfat.

You can use a fragrance for this cold process soap recipe. If desired use up to 2.25 oz. of your favorite body safe fragrance oil; half for essential oils. Although as your guests may have allergies you aren’t aware of you may want to leave this unscented.

You can use virgin olive oil in lieu of pomace olive oil in this soap recipe, however you’ll find that pomace is not only less expensive, it also traces faster.

This mango & coconut milk cold process soap recipe will yield 10-12 bars of soap approximately 4 oz. each depending on how they are cut and fits inside my DIY wooden loaf soap mold.

Instructions:

To make this mango & coconut milk cold process soap recipe, you’ll need to follow your basic cold process soapmaking method instructions. (If you’ve never made cold process soap before here’s a good, inexpensive beginner’s cold process soap recipe.) Be sure to take all proper safety precautions when working with lye including goggles and gloves.

Begin by measuring out the distilled water in fluid ounces. Pour into a heat safe pitcher. Next, using a digital scale weigh out the lye. Slowly pour the lye into the water in a well ventilated area and stir until all the lye has dissolved. Set aside to cool.

Now weigh out the soapmaking oils using a digital scale and combine in a stainless steel pot. Heat until melted, then remove from heat and set aside.

Next, dice the mango, weigh, and set aside. In a separate container using a measuring cup to measure out the coconut milk powder  and set aside. If using a fragrance oil, weigh out the oil at this time as well and set aside.

When the lye-water and soapmaking oils have cooled to around 90°-95°F you’re ready to make soap.

Add the mango chunks and the coconut milk powder to the pot of melted soapmaking oils. Use a stick blender to puree the mango into the oils and incorporate the coconut milk powder. Once the mango and coconut milk powder are fully incorporated in the oils with no chunks you are ready to mix in the lye-water.

Slowly pour the lye-water into the soapmaking oils. Mix with a stick blender until you reach trace. If you are using a fragrance add the fragrance oil at a light trace then mix fully until the fragrance is fully incorporated and you get a medium trace on the soap.

Pour the soap batter into your prepared soap mold and leave uncovered. (This soap gets very hot during saponification and the top will crack if you over insulate it.) Set aside for 24 hours.

After 24 hours your can unmold your homemade soap loaf and cut it into bars. Allow bars to cure at least four weeks then wrap with foodservice film and label.

How to Make Custom Soap Labels

To create your soap labels for your DIY wedding soap favors you’ll need a word processing program. I use OpenOffice as it’s open source, free and works across all platforms. You’ll also need clipart for your image or images that suits your color scheme and wedding theme.

This Antler Clipart from The Dutch Lady Designs works beautifully when incorporated into labels for DIY wedding soap favors.

For my wedding favor soap labels I used this antler clipart with floral decoration (pictured above) from The Dutch Lady Designs on Etsy.

This Wedding Floral Clipart from The Lil' Cliparts works beautifully when incorporated into labels for DIY wedding soap favors.

I also really like this wedding floral clipart (pictured above) from The Lil’ Cliparts. And I’m also a huge fan of the clipart at Amanda Ilkov as well. I love her wedding bicycle clipart and floral wedding save the date clipart. However you can choose any clipart image(s) you prefer. After all, it is your big day!

Next determine the size you want your wedding favor soap bars to be. Full size bars that are approximately 3 1/4″ x 2 1/2″. But these bars can easily be cut in half to double the amount of bars you have and create more manageable guest sized soaps. Once you know what size your soaps will be you can then create your soap labels for your DIY wedding soap favors. You’ll need to create the labels slightly smaller than the size of the soap.

How to make your own labels for DIY wedding soap favors using the free open source program OpenOffice.

Begin by creating a new text document. File > New > Text Document
