Using Horsetail Extract in Homemade Skin Care Products

July 15, 2013

Natural Horsetail Extract - Use this amazing plant extract in your natural homemade skin care and beauty recipes to help regenerate and rejuvinate damaged skin cellsOne of my new favorite extracts – and one that I hope to include in upcoming handmade beauty and skin care recipes – is wild harvested horsetail extract. Horsetail extract is purported to contain the building blocks needed for collagen and elastin synthesis in skin which rebuild and regenerate damaged skin cells. It is the most abundant source of silica in the plant kingdom and is commonly used as an ingredient in shampoos and natural skincare products. On hair, the natural silicone present helps to smooth hair. Or add this amazing extract to your bath and body recipes to add skin rejuvenating benefits or to treat itchy skin rashes or eczema and even reduce oiliness.  (Where to buy it.)

Other fabulous natural ingredients for homemade skin care products include certified organic rosehip seed oil and cold pressed organic pomegranate seed oil. Rosehip seed oil is praised for its ability to counteract dry and dehydrated skin as well as reduce the appearance of scars. It is one of the most used oils for treating wrinkles and premature aging. Pomegranate seed oil is naturally high in flavonoids and punicic acid making it remarkable for use in skin care products. It not only nourishes skin, but also provides anti-oxidant benefits for numerous skin ailments like eczema and psoriasis. It also helps to rejuvenate aging skin making it a fabulous inclusion in your own homemade cosmetics creations.

Thanks for all the great info on the horsetail extract. I will have to look for that. I have been using vit E oil in my skin care lately and jojoba oil. Also – love your cucumber eye mask recipe from a few weeks ago – tried that and really liked it!

I’ve never seen an actual horsetail plant before, and I can totally see why it has the name. Thanks for all the great info about it!

You would use horsetail extract at .5 – 5% of your total recipe.
