Let’s Make Brown Sugar Drop Cookies!
When I was a little girl I baked with mom a lot. There are printed photographs still hanging around of me somewhere. My mom has numerous stashed photo albums from the 70s and 80s hidden in various boxes in her basement storage. In them are photos of me from about four years old on, baking cookies. Of course, in most of those photos I’m licking cookie dough batter off a spoon. Still, I still seemed to have grasped the concept of baking at a young age.
Not only did I learn that raw cookie dough is delicious. I also learned that if you want to eat raw cookie dough you had to actually make at least some of the cookies. These days, when I’m feeling lazy, I just pick up refrigerated cookie dough from the grocery store. Nothing, however, quite beats making homemade cookies from scratch. And I’ve found that by making something I enjoy eating, baking – and even cooking for that matter – really is a joy filled self care activity.
Back in the days when I was still under five feet tall and drawing with crayons was my favorite past time, I loved to bake snickerdoodles with my mom. You can of course roll these brown sugar cookies in a combo of cinnamon and sugar before baking them if you like. But these brown sugar drop cookies are actually delicious all on their own. And, this is a great cookie recipe to inspire a young (undiscovered) baker you may have in your own home.
Despite the name, these brown sugar drop cookies aren’t overly sweet. What they are, however, is pretty darn perfect. And quite frankly, I’ve never made an easier cookie. So, whether you’re getting back to your roots with some simple, old fashioned baking, or if you’re simply learning a new skill, this homemade brown sugar cookie recipe is a keeper.
