DIY Homemade Tri-Color Lip Balm Recipe

DIY Handmade Natural Tri-Color Lip Balm Recipes - Cute Homemade Gift Idea for Valentine's Day

What’s more fun than a homemade lip balm recipe that comes in a single container but boasts three fab colors and three fab flavors? Create your own homemade lip balms for Valentine’s Day tinted in red, pink and white shimmer. I created mine so that the sheer (white) shimmer is flavored with peppermint essential oil, the pink is flavored with cocoa absolute and the red is flavored with ginger essential oil. But you can customize and mix up these colors and flavors any way you like! In addition to the fun color and flavor combinations, the shea butter, cocoa butter and rosehip seed oil in this homemade lip balm recipe also keep lips looking and feeling great, fighting the drying effects of winter.

Natural Handmade Tinted Tri-Color Lip Balm Recipe

Instructions:

This recipe yields ten 15ml containers of lip balm. You’ll need to make each color/flavor individually as these cool and set up very quickly.

For each color/flavor weigh out the cocoa butter, beeswax, and shea butter and melt in the microwave or a double boiler. Then, weigh out the rosehip seed oil and stir into the mixture. Using plastic transfer pipettes, add the vitamin E, rosemary extract and essential oil then measure out the mica or pigment and stir into the lip balm.

Quickly and carefully pour the first color of lip balm into one section of the lip balm pots. You may need to reheat the lip balm as you go to ensure an even pour as these solidify very quickly. I highly recommend using a small glass beaker over a measuring cup for this as it makes it a thousand times easier. Repeat with each flavor and color until all sections of the lip balm pots are filled.  Then simply screw on the caps and gift.

Why Rosehip Seed Oil?

If you suffer from dry or aging skin, rosehip seed oil is one of your best friends in combating the effects. It contains a high amount of essential fatty acids purported to combat the effects of dry, weathered, and dehydrated skin. It’s also great on reducing scars and is often the predominant oil used for treating wrinkles and premature aging.

I’ve been nervous about using any mica’s or oxides in anything I’ve made because I have little ones that seem to enjoy “eating” any of them that they can find. I know that these are food grade but are they safe for children?

Yes, they are non-toxic. These are common ingredients in even big brand cosmetic products.
