DIY Pumpkin Jars
What You’ll Need:
Darice 7 oz. Glass Craft Jar (1095-98) with Metal Lid
aluminum foil
White Original Sculpey Oven Bake Clay
clear acrylic sealer
E6000 glue
pottery tools (optional)
craft paints
craft paint brushes
What to Do:
Begin by crumpling up aluminum foil into an apple or pumpkin shape in the size you’d like your pumpkin jar topper to be.
Once you are satisfied with the basic shape, knead your polymer clay until it’s soft and pliable. Next, roll out a large circle of clay, about 1/4″ thick.
Shape the clay around the aluminum foil. Cut out sections as needed in order to remove excess clay. Blend the seams together so it’s a solid layer of clay over the foil.
Once the entire ball of foil is covered with clay smooth the sides and add a pumpkin stem.
Use a potter’s rib or similar to add indentations around the diameter of your clay pumpkin.
Next, shape 1/4″ thick clay around the outside lid to your jar. Create a slight indentation in the clay for your pumpkin to rest in.
Leaving the clay attached to the jar lid, bake the lid and the pumpkin together in a 275°F oven for about 15 minutes on a baking sheet. Then remove from the oven and allow it to cool.
Using craft paints, paint the jar lid and the pumpkin as desired. Allow the paint to dry, then spray the two pieces with several coats of clear acrylic sealer.
Once the sealer has dried, glue the pumpkin to your jar lid using E6000 glue.
Your pumpkin jar is now complete!
Fill your pumpkin jar as desired or decorate your jar for gifting!
To create your own pumpkin spice mix for your DIY pumpkin jars, combine 3 Tablespoons of ground cinnamon with 2 Tablespoons each of ground ginger and nutmeg and 1 1/2 teaspoons each of ground cloves and allspice and mix well.
