Adult Acne? No Thanks.

As if going through acne as a hormonal teenager wasn’t enough, it’s even less exciting to learn that yes, adults get acne too. Whether it’s caused by stress or ever changing hormones – women especially know how challenging this can be – acne can put a real damper on your self esteem. If you’re like me you’ve spent an insane amount of money trying to find that perfect miracle product that tackles outbreaks not just as they happen, but before they even begin. And unfortunately, you’ve likely found that some of those products actually make your face look more like a landmine exploded than the clear complexion you’re so desperately seeking.

At this point I’ve kind of given up trying to figure out why my chin becomes Mr. Hyde and am instead focusing on trying to woo it away from the dark side. As taking a preventative approach to acne breakouts seems to work more in my favor, I actually have fewer overall breakouts. And activated charcoal has been a key ingredient throughout it all.

Why Activated Charcoal?

Activated charcoal has long been my go to ingredient for clearer, healthier looking skin – even before the “big brands” started catching on. An incredibly mild exfoliant, activated charcoal helps to “detox” skin by drawing out dirt, toxins, oil and other impurities that can lead to acne breakouts. And as it’s suitable for even sensitive skin, pretty much everyone can take advantage of its skin care benefits.

Following is a collection of ten of my favorite activated charcoal skin care recipes that I’ve developed over the years. I hope you enjoy them as much as I have.
