What is a Fruit Pop?

Fruit pops are homemade fruit popsicles that are made with real fruit or fruit juice. I like to use real bits of fruit to add some extra fruit to my diet. I also think that real fruit makes these healthy frozen treats look prettier and taste better than using juice.

Are Fruit Popsicles Healthy?

Yes, fruit popsicles made with real fruit are a healthy alternative to many store bought popsicles and ice cream treats. Not only do they not have added sugar, the ingredients also have a number of health benefits. So you can feel good about giving your family these fruit pops as a healthy snack or treat.

Benefits of Yogurt and Fruit Popsicles

These mango strawberry yogurt popsicles have a number of health benefits. These include:

  • Coconut yogurt, like regular yogurt, has probiotics. This can support your digestive system and your immune system.
  • Coconut yogurt contains vitamins and minerals like calcium, B-vitamins, selenium, zinc, and potassium.
  • Since you use real fruit, there’s fiber and additional vitamins and minerals from the fruit.
  • This healthy popsicles recipe is naturally sweetened from the fruit. There is no need for any additional sugar, therefore there are no added sugars.

What Can I Use For a Popsicle Mold?

I recommend using a silicone popsicle mold to make fruit popsicles. Popsicles can be hard to remove from hard plastic, but you can use them.

If you don’t have silicone popsicle molds, then you can also use one of the following:

  • Mini muffin tins are the perfect size to make yogurt and fruit popsicles for toddlers and younger kids.
  • Use small disposable cups to make mango strawberry yogurt popsicles. If you use a paper cup, you can simply peel it away from the frozen treats.
  • Pour these homemade yogurt and fruit popsicles in a loaf pan. Place popsicle sticks inside evenly spaced. When it’s set up, slice into servings.
  • Similar to a mini muffin tin, use ice cube trays to make smaller sugar free popsicles.
  • Save yogurt containers to reuse to make homemade yogurt and fruit popsicles.

If you use one of these, you’ll need food grade popsicle sticks. You can also use plastic spoons as a popsicle handle. This works well for younger children.

How Do You Keep Popsicles From Sticking to the Mold?

I really recommend using silicone molds to make mango strawberry popsicles. They are easiest to unmold. However, no matter which mold you use, sometimes a homemade yogurt and fruit popsicles recipe can be tricky to unmold.

If you’re having problems unmolding your mango strawberry popsicles, fill a pan or container with warm water and dip the water in the water for about 20 to 30 seconds. Then remove the molds from the warm water and try to unmold. If the yogurt and fruit popsicles don’t pop out right away, dip them back in the water and try again.

You can also let these healthy frozen treats sit at room temperature for 5 to 10 minutes to thaw slightly. They may lose their shape, and they will melt quicker.

What is the Best Yogurt to Use to Make Yogurt and Fruit Popsicles?

I prefer to use plant based, coconut yogurt to make my homemade yogurt and fruit popsicles. However, you can use regular yogurt to make these sugar free fruit pops as well. I chose to use plain, unsweetened yogurt to make these healthy frozen treats. However you can use a fruit flavored yogurt if you want. If you’d like to make sugar free popsicles, make sure the yogurt that you use is sugar free with no added sugars.

Benefits of Coconut Yogurt

Coconut yogurt, like fresh fruit, also has a number of natural health benefits as a plant based food.

  • Coconut yogurt has probiotics like regular yogurt. Therefore it is able to aid digestive health.
  • It is also more digestible than dairy yogurt, especially if you have issues with dairy or need to limit your dairy intake.
  • This product is also high in vitamins and minerals.
  • Coconut yogurt is lower in carbohydrates than dairy yogurt, and tends to have significantly less sugar. There are also sugar free options.

Can I add Honey to Homemade Fruit Popsicles?

Yes, you can add raw honey to yogurt and fruit popsicles. I find that this recipe sweet enough, but you can add honey to taste if desired. Honey is great natural sweetener and a healthy alternative to sugar.

Tips for Making 3-Ingredient Yogurt Popsicles

Here are some tips for making my 3-ingredient yogurt popsicles:

  • This homemade fruit popsicles recipe will last three months in the freezer, so you can freeze leftovers all summer long.
  • You can swap the fruits to make different flavors. Peaches, raspberries, or kiwi would be really good for homemade fruit popsicles.
  • Be sure to combine the ingredients well. If you don’t mix the yogurt and fruit popsicles well, they may separate when you try to unmold them.
  • If you have leftover homemade fruit popsicles, remove from the mold and place them in a container with a lid. They will be good for three months in the freezer.
  • The handles that come with the silicone molds make this fruit popsicles recipe easier to unmold, but you can use wooden popsicle sticks if your kids are prone to losing the sticks.
  • Add collagen to your yogurt and fruit popsicles for a boost of collagen for your family.
