Best Cleaning Hack with Dawn & Vinegar

Recently I stumbled across a great blog post on Picklee that highlighted 10 Remarkable DIY Cleaning Solutions. Shortly after pinning these great tips to my DIY Lifestyle Tips Board on Pinterest, my friend Cari of Koti Beth Designs commented on how amazing the super homemade shower cleaner recipe is.

The homemade shower cleaner recipe calls for equal parts of vinegar and Dawn mixed together in a spray bottle. Cari followed the recipe exactly, other than heating the vinegar, sprayed it on, walked away, and then simply rinsed her shower upon returning. The result? A very clean shower.

Homemade Shower Cleaner with Essential Oils

I decided to improvise a little on this homemade shower cleaner recipe. Instead, I filled my empty bottle of Method Bathroom Cleaner 2/3 full with white vinegar, 1/3 full with regular Dawn.

I then added some essential oils for fragrance and their antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral properties. I used equal parts of lavender, peppermint, and eucalyptus essential oils and a smaller amount of tea tree oil.

It does smell a little medicinal. However, if you want a less medicinal scent try a combo of just lavender and peppermint or eucalyptus and peppermint. You can still use a dash of tea tree oil though it does tend to have a very powerful odor.

I like the tea tree oil though since it has antifungal, antiviral, and antibacterial  properties. You can adjust the essential oils based on the size of the container you decide to use. Or, for extra gross grimey surface, change the ratio of the Dawn and white vinegar to 50% each.

I use white vinegar, tto, washing soda, borax, baking soda, and water in a spray bottle and it works pretty great. However, I like this a lot, because of it having less ingredients.(: Thanks!

This works perfectly, and better than those expensive name brand products. Couldn’t believe it.
