DIY Lemongrass & Sage Bath Bomb Recipe
With this year’s polar vortex dipping South I’m pretty much over winter at this point. So I thought that instead of sharing another winter DIY, I’d instead share a spring inspired DIY bath project to remind us of what’s ahead. And hopefully it won’t take too terribly long because these 1°F temps are definitely not something we are used to here in Southwestern Virginia! While it’s finally warming up a bit, we are expecting some freezing rain in the morning. I’m going to pretend the weatherman was pulling a prank, however, and instead give you a rather fresh and green homemade bath bomb recipe to add some fun to your bath. Besides, isn’t a bath the perfect way to warm up on a cold winter day?
DIY Lemongrass & Sage Bath Bombs
Ingredients:
2.25 oz. citric acid
4.5 oz. baking soda
1 oz. argan oil
.5 oz. kaolin clay (also called white cosmetic clay)
2.25 ml Lemongrass Sage fragrance oil
pinch of FDA approved green bath bomb colorant or mica
Supplies:
digital kitchen scale
Leaf Wax Tart Mold
glass bowl or large glass measuring cup
graduated plastic transfer pipette
fork
Instructions:
Weigh out all of the dry ingredients – the baking soda, citric acid, clay and colorant – using a digital kitchen scale and combine in a glass bowl. Mix ingredients thoroughly with a fork.
Weigh out the argan oil – chosen for it’s intense moisturizing benefits! – and drizzle over the dry ingredients. Then measure out the fragrance oil using a plastic transfer pipette and add to the dry ingredients as well.
Use the fork to thoroughly combine all ingredients together and mix until all dry ingredients have been fully incorporated with the oil and fragrance.
Now firmly press the bath bomb ingredients into each cavity of the leaf mold. Press firmly to ensure they are packed as much as possible into each cavity of the mold. Then allow to dry overnight.
The next day you can gently press each bath bomb from the mold’s cavities. Then package and store in a cool, dry location until use.
These were a lot easier to make than I had thought they would be as I’ve heard horror stories of bath bombs fizzing up in the process of making them. I experienced no fizzing and did not see any need to spritz with witch hazel.
This recipe will yield approximately nine, 1 oz. “leafy” green bath bombs perfect for spring wedding favors or as homemade gifts for Easter baskets. To use simply drop 2-3 bath bombs into warm bath water and enjoy!

What a breath of fresh warm air! Love the shamrock mold, too.

I was wondering what the shelf life for your bath bombs is?

The shelf life is always the same as the ingredient with the shortest shelf life.
