Ingredients:
.2 oz. beeswax
.5 oz. sweet almond oil
up to .25 oz. fragrance oil
Instructions:
Using a digital scale, begin by weighing out the beeswax into a double boiler or a glass Pyrex measuring cup. Heat in the double boiler until melted or in the microwave at 50% power until melted. Remove from heat.
Once the beeswax has melted, weigh out the sweet almond oil. Stir into the melted beeswax. If the mixture begins to solidify – which can happen if the oil is cold – heat again slightly. (If you prefer not to use sweet almond oil or don’t have sweet almond oil on hand, you can substitute with any other low odor carrier oil that is liquid at room temperature.)
Now weigh out the fragrance and stir into the melted beeswax and oil mixture.
Note: This homemade solid perfume recipe calls for the fragrance oil at 35% of the total beeswax and oil weight. Not all fragrance oils can be used up to 35% and be skin safe so you’ll want to check the manufacturer guidelines via the supplier you choose and adjust the amount of fragrance oil used appropriately. I chose a fragrance oil that was skin safe at up to 38% usage rate for perfume. However some fragrance oils are only safe up to 8% or less even in perfumes. Follow the same guidelines if you prefer to use natural essential oils. (You can find essential oil perfume recipes here. Or try one of these winter essential oil blends.)
Now pour the melted mixture for this solid perfume recipe into lip balm containers. I used .3 oz. eco-friendly brown paperboard push up lip balm tubes from SKS Bottle & Packaging for my homemade solid perfumes. This particular homemade solid perfume recipe will fill three of these tubes. Alternately you can also use regular plastic lip balm tubes.
Allow your homemade solid perfumes to harden completely, then cap and label or decorate your solid perfume tubes as desired.
I used free washi tape clipart to decorate my tubes along with a hand drawn herbal tea clipart set I purchased from Mellenes Digital Art on Etsy. I simply imported the images into OpenOffice and arranged the graphics I wanted to use onto a blank text document, then printed the page onto a full size label/sticker sheet. (You can learn more about how to do this in my post on how to make homemade chocolate orange body butter here.)
Alternately you can also make this homemade solid perfume recipe in lip balm pots. (Pictured here are 1/2 ounce brown paperboard jars from SKS Bottle & Packaging.) For easier application using lip balm pots, you can reduce the amount of beeswax used to .15 oz.
