Year In Review: Top Pinterest Posts of 2018
Last year was filled with SO many changes for me. Some good, some not so good. However they were all wonderful learning experiences. And while some things changed, a lot of things also stayed the same. Like your favorite posts from Soap Deli News! Here’s a look at the top Pinterest posts from Soap Deli News for 2018 – none of which were actually written in 2018. Enjoy!
I was sick for Christmas again this year. Looking back through my Facebook timeline, it seems to be a recurring theme. This year, however, was cake compared to two winters ago when I got shingles. Of course I had no idea that’s what it was at the time. I was living alone and a close look at my back is not an easy thing when it’s covered in tattoos. Around five days in I figured it out. So this year I’m feeling pretty lucky. I’m only dealing with what seems to be seasonal allergies gone awry.
Nonetheless, sick or not, I can only binge so many Netflix shows before I go insane. So while I’m *mostly* up to it, I figured I’d share with you a recap of my top Pinterest posts of 2018. Therefore, while I’m chugging down home remedies and tirelessly adding new flicks to my queue, you can discover a project to make in the new year!
Top Pinterest Posts of 2018
#1 Homemade Shower Cleaner
Believe it or not, my #1 top Pinterest post was from WAY back in 2012. It’s a simple recipe for a Dawn and vinegar shower cleaner. This homemade shower cleaner recipe is super easy to make. And it’s the most effective method ridding your shower of hard water stains and soap scum with almost no effort. In fact, this bathroom cleaning recipe works so well, I still use it today. #2 Strawberry Smoothie Foaming Salt Scrub
This homemade foaming salt scrub recipe looks amazing! Which is likely part of its allure and how it made it to the #2 spot of my top Pinterest posts. Crafted using natural strawberry powder for its beneficial skin care properties, this whipped foaming salt scrub recipe tackles cleansing and exfoliation in one simple step. Plus all the anti-aging skin care benefits of the naturally occuring vitamin C found in the strawberry powder used for this natural skin care recipe! Learn how to make it here. #3 Natural Coffee Under Eye Cream
A long time favorite beauty recipe on Soap Deli News, this natural coffee eye cream recipe comes in at #3 of my top Pinterest posts for the year. Created way back in 2013, this anti-aging DIY has over 72K reshares and continues to make the yearly top ten list. Formulated with coffee infused oil and a blend of plant based ingredients and essential oils, this eye cream helps to reduce the appearance of puffy eyes, fine lines and wrinkles. Learn how to make it here. (Or shop for coffee infused skin care products.)
#4 DIY Light Bulb Aquarium
I made these adorable DIY light bulb aquariums back in 2014 for kids’ Christmas gifts that year. I was obsessed with all the marimo moss ball terrariums I found on Etsy at the time and really wanted to incorporate them into my own DIY project. These turned out to be super simple to make and were a huge hit as homemade gifts. I even made one for myself to keep in my office. While I bought my marimo moss balls online, I was able to find everything else at my local craft store. This project is a MUST for the new year because it’s so simple. It’s also a great make and take craft project idea. Learn how to make them here. (Or buy them ready made.)
#5 Black Drawing Salve
I was pleased to see my black drawing salve recipe make a comeback this year. Black drawing salves are a wonderful home remedy for everything from bee stings and splinters to acne and boils. I first discovered black drawing salve when my son was around eight and developed a boil on this thigh. My grandmother recommended I buy a container of black salve from the pharmacist. I followed her instructions and it worked like a charm. Tracking down black salve locally these days can be a challenge however. So I created my own black drawing salve recipe with a bit of a twist and included green tea and honey in my recipe. Learn how to make my original black drawing salve recipe here. (Buy a ready made salve here.)
#6 Lavender Body Butter
Another skin care favorite from 2014, my non greasy lavender body butter recipe comes in at #6 on my list of top Pinterest posts of the year. Made with both lavender essential oil and neem oil, this homemade body butter does more than just moisturize dry skin! It can also help soothe itching and has some pain relieving properties. Learn how to make it here. (Shop for similar products.)
#7 Kitchen Table Makeover
Another win for 2018 was my kitchen table makeover from the summer prior. My BFF and I had a blast messing this table up. Then I spent the next few days giving it a bright and fun new look! While this table got left behind when my ex and I split, it’s still one of my favorite projects that didn’t involve soap. Explore the process here. (Discover more kitchen home decor ideas.)
#8 Goldfish in a Bag Soap
One of my all time favorite top Pinterest posts is my goldfish in a bag soapmaking tutorial. Also from 2014, this was one project that it took me a few tries to get just right. However, the end result was entirely worth it. And, of course, I shared my tips and tricks that I used so you don’t run into the same issues I did. So if you’re looking for novelty gifts or kids party favors, then this soap tutorial needs to be at the top of your “to do list” for 2019 things to try. View the step-by-step tutorial.
