Easy DIY Washi Tape Gift Tin for Homemade Roll On Perfumes, Lip Balms or Guest Soaps
Looking for a handmade gift idea for a spring birthday or Easter basket? This easy DIY washi tape decorated gift tin is simple to make and is perfect for holding two homemade roll on perfumes, lip balms or guest soaps! All you need is an empty empty altoid tin and two complimentary spring themed rolls of washi tape.
Run strips of one washi tape design along the top and the sides of the tin. Then with the coordinating tape, wrap a strip along the edge and top of the tin. You can also outline the separation with permanent markers, adding designs if you like, to add a bit more pizazz.
Now fill your tin with your gifts of choice. I found that my homemade roll on perfumes fit perfectly inside this tin. You can find recipes for my DIY Red Velvet Cake Perfume Oil here. Or make my Tempestuous Roll On Cologne for Men from my fragrance recipe here. Don’t feel limited by these two fragrances though. You can use any skin safe fragrance oil you’re a fan of in lieu of the scents mentioned. For spring you may want to try a collection of floral fragrances like lavender, jasmine or lilacs.
Or you can create a collection of lip balms for your washi tape tin. My homemade lip balm recipes you may want to consider include the following: Tri-color Tinted Lip Balm Recipe, Coffee Lip Butter Recipe, Natural Cold Sore Therapy Lip Balm, Natural Lavender Mint Lip Balm, Red Tinted Lip Balm Recipe, Chocolate Mint Lip Balm Recipe, Mango Shimmer Tinted Lip Balm Recipe, Organic Red Lip Stain Recipe, Natural Naked Lip Gloss Recipe, Birthday Cake Lip Balm Recipe, and an Easy Natural Lip Butter Recipe. Use lip balm tubes or lip balm pots based on your recipient’s preference.
Alternately, you could put guest size homemade soaps inside the tin for gifting. Click here for a collection of my handmade soap recipes.

Hi, Rebecca. I’m THRILLED to find your DIY how-to! DH uses these tins to store camera stuff and I for knitting and sewing notions, so, no mix ups allowed. Lol. I’ve been searching for a nearly indestructible way to decorate them to identify what’s inside and personalize for the user (girly vs manly).
Questions:
– Is the Washi tape waterproof or water resistant? Will it hold up if used near a sink or out in the weather? Or, does it rub off or disintegrate?
– Where do you buy your Washi tape?
Thanks so much! 😀

Washi tape isn’t going to hold up the elements. You should seal any surfaces with washi tape with an appropriate sealer for the conditions. I typically purchase my washi tape on Etsy or from cutetape.com
